Let's not forget Williams did not play for 3 years in the prime of his career and also struck out 621 times fewer than Ruth did. Also, the premise of this thread (as stated in the OP) is to consider these athletes in their prime... not over the course of a career.

I don't know if you did this on purpose, but these players are first at their position in JAWS (Jaffe WAR Score system).

Copycat.

Nope. Not on purpose. I just chose the guys who I thought were best. I guess I intuitively like JAWS (I actually do like JAWS).

and Ruth got on base just as frequently if you look at OBP and Ruth never struck out 100 times in a season (tops Was 93)

On another note... I am glad that you are no longer a part of the dark side like your early posting days... with the strange threads, comments, and creepy avatar

Nothing against Clemente but I think him dying in a plane crash has elevated his status. He played 18 seasons finished with 3000 hits, 240 home runs, 84 Stolen bases, .317 average....

Just my opinion but there are at least 10 players I would take offensively over Clemente

Love Clemente.

A legend.

But not a starter on the ALL-TIME team.

How many games would the best team of all time realistically win out of the 162 game regular season?
