I think he is still the Dolphins coach today if he had picked Brees.

I have read elsewhere that he wanted Brees but the team doctors wouldn't clear him and/or the GM didn't want the risk of Brees coming off labrum surgery. They forced Saban's hand and Culpepper was the result.

By the way, at the time Culpepper was awesome. His 2004 season was one of the best in NFL history that was overshadowed by Peyton Manning breaking records.

As great as Saban is, the one thing he isn't really is a QB mentor IMO

Or an NFL coach

Saban has no control over NFL players. I don't see this happening. The guy works his arse off, maybe he just wants to retire and enjoy his family, but I think he sticks it out for a little while.

The only people seemingly upset by this "rumor" are Bama fans. Everyone else is discussing it like normal people.

Just callin it like I see it.

Damn. He made Jacob Hester after only coaching him for 7-8 months. That is impressive
He did a really nice job with Rashad Johnson and Javy. I'm sure he has plenty great development jobs just like those. Plenty coaches can say that, though.

If Saban can't win dinky College Playoff games, what makes you think he will win big time NFL Pre Season Games?

He will be a colossal failure in the NFL and Saban knows this.

Sounds like a done deal. Do you think he will stick around for the bowl game or leave after the regular season?

It's hilarious how much the LSU fanbase is obsessed with Saban.

Don't think Saban would work for Irsay.

It's somewhat valid point that he saw him and offered him a place at a major level college. Yes , he wasn't necessarily responsible for Hester getting to the pro but he did give him a chance based on an eye for talent and later coaching helped propelled the raw talent upward.

Texas offered first, as well as other big D1 schools.

Its not like this kid had an offer from Milsaps and Lord Saban discovered him.

OP is a USC fan. Article was on ProFootballTalk.

And Saban coached us, left us for an NFL team (conversation topic), then returned a division foe and beats us a lot.

Pretty sure its natural for us to discuss him. Are we supposed to pretend like he's just another dude?

LSU fans can't discuss Saban or any Bama player without being "obsessed" or "butthurt."

Well, to be fair, it has reached extremely obsessive levels on this board, for a long while now.

But yeah, "discussion."

They're mocking Saban because of the reporter's choice of words about a great former player that Saban recruited.

It's comical
