My hope of this thread is to understand the preseason method more clearly.

Not knocking teams like 2015 Auburn but critical of voters and experts..

Before making the predictions what goes into the evaluating periods to base your high ranking on?

I mean did any single voters Omit Auburn totally from top 25?

Were experts like Herbstreit at Auburn practices evaluating new QB Johnson to see if he was ready or not?

I rely on them for analysis and real insight I am confused how you can collectively miss so big every year.

Or are they just like us and casually watch games and have a vote?

The polls shouldn't come out until around the 3rd week.

That's the problem.

In the preseason, most of the national media football talking heads are essentially on vacation, so they rely on the most-popular opinions and hive mind mentality of other media members to keep generating clicks and champion someone for their shallow articles and filler TV interviews.

In fairness to them, although he was unproven, everybody thought Jeremy Johnson was going to be good. Some (like myself, self-promo FTW) thought Auburn would miss Nick Marshall and his running ability, nobody know how badly they would miss him. It was also easy to fall into the allure of Muschamp as well - it won't be the first or last time people crown a new DC or OC despite the unit lacking overall physical talent.

In summation, don't listen to the media when they go all-in for an unproven player or a new position coach.

I think a lot of people just assumed Gus would have a good offense regardless of the QB.

Ohio State could be first or unranked by seasons end.

Nothing has been proven.
