I know this has probably been discussed around here hundreds of times, but nothing came up via search.

Someone mind explaining to me the real reasoning behind this?

Also, who were the main proponents for this?

Catholic vs Public School League

Really has nothing to do with Catholic Schools, because Curtis and Evangel aren't Catholic. Point blank, Curtis and Evangel beat everyone for years. The big schools got sick of it and dumped them off on the small schools. When tiny Winnfield had their best team ever destroyed by Curtis in the Dome, their female principal decided to blow shite up. Now they're all in and deciding to blow up all sports, not just football.

Honestly, Principals shouldn't have a vote. Let the coaches decide and I highly doubt we would be in this mess. People that know nothing about the sport and are more concerned about everyone's feelings and everyone getting a trophy doomed us to the shite sandwich we will have to choke down this year.

ETA: To answer last question of OP: 1st time it was Ruston's principal that proposed the play in class rule. He was tired of Evangel beating them in district as well as them winning State in 5A every year. 2nd time was Winnfield and Barbe principals that proposed the split. 3rd time was Many Principal I believe that wanted all sports split.

You have no room to talk really. The most embarrassing vote was West Monroe voting for the split

They did vote the last time a couple weeks ago to leave what was voted for in January.

I don't understand this stance at all. WM never lost a single game to the Catholic League. WM beat Curtis the one time they played 26-7. WM is playing Curtis again this year in Week 2 in Shreveport. WM hasn't even made it to the Dome since the split, much less win a title.

they've had 4 votes... three of them have been recorded on a school by school basis...

Jan 2013 the original split, passed 206-119

Jan 2014 a vote to see if each class wanted it. all did.

Jan 2016 vote to split other sports after it was tabled for a year, passed 182-120

June 2016 the vote where they had 4 proposals and "no change", no change won 173-133 combined for the other 4 proposals

Barbe voting for the split is a joke especially in baseball. What a bunch of pussies.

Nitpick: That was a good Winnfield team, the best they had had in several years. But it wasn't the best ever. Winnfield had a run from the late seventies through the early eighties when they made deep runs in the playoffs every year and won state a couple of times. They had multiple D1 signees, including two or three who went on to play in the NFL. This from a school that had ~450 kids in grades 9-12. They had another pretty good stretch in the nineties with Anthony Thomas.

This recent team was alright, but very one dimensional on offense. They couldn't throw at all, and when JC got a lead on them, it was all over.
