Per Rosenthal and numerous others via twitter. Will update with decent link when a story other than MLB traderumors gets posted.

Time for Girardi watch. Seems like a bit of pipe dream though.

So long Dale

Dynamite drop in Monty.

But to actually discuss the topic:

Wins losses clearly isn't what this is about. Gotta imagine it's the regression of castro, rizzo's bad good season/good bad season (becasue some of those numbers weren't bad). Hope the little pissing match wtih jackson didn't have any effect.

About the pipe dream part? In all honesty that was being a touch modest. I don't think it's really that far out of the realm of posibility. Obviously i think there is a better chance it doesn't happen that it does...but it's not like it's just a hail mary.

Girardi to the Cubs isn't too far fetched.

I don't know how much Sveum had to do with the Cubs only moving up two spots in the draft order. Look, the ML roster just wasn't good. Castro and Rizzo having so so seasons may worry me a little, but Sveum doesn't grab a bat or glove and play. Plus, both Rizzo and Castro are very young. This was only Rizzo's first full season. Last year was his big callup.

The future is extremely bright for the minor league Cubs, and that's really what I'm concerning myself with. Dale Sveum's lineup cards and decisions never really bothered me. Then again, I didn't watch much Cubs baseball this year. Or last.

I agree. I'd call it less than 50% (still think he takes a year off) but plenty of things working in cubs favor...thanks northwestern.

I'm at a complete loss with this one. I agree with the poster that is wasn't as much the W/L columns, but the regression of caster and Rizzo's ups and downs. This is supposed to be an exciting time for Cubs fans, watching the young talent come together and start to rise out of the doldrums, but it just isn't. No one with connected synapses expected them to compete this year, and maybe not next year, but the good moves are turning into the same old stories.

I can't even begin to guess where they go for a manager from here since they burned bridges with Ryno (in the short term at least, wouldn't be surprised to see him on the north side at some point in his career).

To me that's the concern. That roster isn't winning much with anyone at the helm. But with 2014 bringing the arrival of baez (almost a gurantee) and most likely bryant towards the end, if they have concerns over his ability to develop players this move had to be made today.

I have a mixed bag on this. I think the front office may have made him run marmol out there to try to squeeze an ounce of trade value out of him...but if they didn't then he's dumb as a brick. Either way I really think the record had little to do with the decision and it's a lack of trust in his ability to groom talent. could become of one of those 'the devil you know' things though.

It's really sad that I pay more attention to the Cubs in the offseasons lately.

If it's the Castro and Rizzo thing, then I get it. And I guess that's what I'm trying to say...if I'm the Cubs, I guess I look at that and say it's not worth it to keep you around. Both those players have a world of talent at their fingertips. Who gets it out of them?

For one, Castro just has to stop being a dipshit. And Rizzo needs patience. 76 walks isn't bad at all, but swinging at terrible breaking pitches at your feet is. Clean that shite up.
