Huge win last night. Soler with a 2 out 2 RBI hit in the 1st followed by a Schwarber bomb in the 2nd was enough offense to hold off the Giants.

Cubs take 1/2 game lead in the WC2 race. Nats and Cards both win last night. YUK.

Schwarber is a hitting machine. It'll be interesting to see if he's just in that "pre-MLB pitchers catching up" stage. Or if this who he is.

Good news is Giants will be throwing righties the rest of the series, so he'll be in the lineup all weekend.

Schwarber was awesome last night. Happy we don't get to see Bumgarner.

I know it was just one hit, and it wasn't exactly a laser, but it was good to see bryant put a good swing on a ball.

YE YE

Great job of holding off the Giants towards the end. Hopefully Lester can get us a solid 7/8 innings tonight since we had to go early to the pen yesterday

Series win here would definitely get us some ground for the WC

Yes! I was starting to feel like I hadn't physically seen Bryant get a hit in about a month. I watch the Giants quite often and think they are gonna tag Vogelsong tonight.

My life needs Bryant to start mashing. But the Cubs are winning and Schwarber is a big part of it. Good night for Soler, too.

yap. His bat is too valuable to sit vs righties.

Ross is catching today and Sunday. Coghlan will probably spell Soler, Castro, or Russell those days.

Montero hit a grand slam last night. He should be close to being back up soon.

Thought that was a good move by Joe. Didn't look like Hammel had it. Understand his frustration but i liked the move.

Speaking of managing. How about with a one run lead, pulling schwarber, due up to lead off the 9th to replace with ross to go ahead and put your best battery out there. Gutsy.

I think he ultimately flied out to right, but watching him go 0-2, battle for 7 or more pitches, laying off two breaking balls that dove into the ground at the last second was so encouraging. he'd been looking stupid swinging at those pitches earlier in the season.

But maybe he could not hit the ball so hard so rizzo could score from 2nd. That ball was on the LF in no time flat.

Pirates start a stretch today against the Dodgers, Cardinals and Mets.

I think we can catch them fools by next Sunday.

Kershaw vs Cole tonight

I saw a tweet from Buster Olney I think...said the Cardinals are 30 games over .500 and on pace to win over 100 games. Man...just, man frick them.

It's unreal.

If they go .500 the rest of the way they hit 96 wins.

But they are now the enemy or our enemies, so they are our friend.

Heston sucked last night from the jump. Hopefully this will be the only start that Leake misses. Bullpen has been used up on this road trip, and I doubt Vogelsong will stop the bleeding. FML

Russel, Castro and Soler seem to be balancing back out offensively after the last couple of months. I'm curious if Bryant can figure out/adjust to the scouting report before the pitchers learn to pitch to Schwarber. He will probably struggle for a month. Hopefully he bounced back before middle of Sept.

Bryant's problem hasn't been that "pitchers have adjusted to him". Bryant's has been caught in between and has missed a lot of fastballs right down the middle of the plate. Nothing to see here. He will be fine.

I think you're splitting hairs. Pitchers have certainly adjusted to him based on pitch location. But I also agree with you that he's just swinging through some dandies and sometimes his pitch recognition looks lost.

If Bryant gets it going again

Every time Schwarber steps up to the plate get your cameras ready. The kid just mashes the ball.

We'll certainly pitchers have made adjustments to him. This is a game of adjustments. But Bryant has been caught in between an awful lot. His pitch recognition has been fine. He isn't doing anything differently. His approach is the same. He's just missing the baseball right now and probably started pressing even more. But he isn't struggling because pitchers have adjusted to him, he's just been in between.
