Read this article on Kris Bryant and how he's being pitched...this is almost an indictment on his propensity to strikeout way too much (evidenced by his recent struggles to make contact). Granted, Kris Bryant will draw a walk and does have an OBP over 100 points higher than his AVG. But for someone hitting in the middle of the order, he needs to make more solid contact and start driving the ball.

I'm not worried about Kris Bryant, but I am interested to see if and when he begins his adjustment to how he's being pitched.

Tonight's lineup:

Finally, that's a thing of beauty.

ETA: Here's another article, this time on Junior Lake. I think it's a bit pie in the sky, but I have wondered a bit why Matt Szczur has spent more time with the Cubs than Junior Lake.

A new thread. Thing of beauty
Heard Pat Hughes say 100+ K's in 87 games so far. He does draw walks and is a tremendous baserunner though.

He is a tremendous baseball player. He does just about everything right. He plays solid defense and is a very good baserunner. He does draw walks and when he learns how to adjust to pitching (which will be an ever evolving thing), he will be really scary.

I'm happy that Schwarber guy is playing today.

Solid read. I think part of the issue is he's getting the "rookie treatment" by umpires. I've seen more than a handful of AB's where he gets hosed.

It’s become apparent that pitchers are quickly reaching the conclusion that they may lose to the Cubs, but it won’t be Kris Bryant hitting a 500-foot home run that will be the cause of that loss.

This won't happen as much when we start to hit better as a team.

In a lot of the AB's I've actually watched on TV, he's swung and missed or fouled off some really hittable pitches.

I agree with you, I'm just saying umpires have not done him any favors this year.

He does just about everything right.

What game was it where he got thrown behind and was out at 2nd because the 3b coach threw up a late stop sign for rizzo? I think it's fantastic that for a rookie the only baserunning blunder I can think of is actually probably the 3b coaches fault.

he is in a weird funk right now of pitches he chooses to swing at and pitches he takes. I don't think he's really gotten that raw of a deal...soler on the other hand...he's got to protect an extra 6 inches everywhere the way he's getting called.

I feel like you're more right on Soler than Metry is on Bryant. No offense, Metry. But Soler is one of those guys like Chris Coghlan that hits almost everything hard it seems. They're on the total opposite end of the spectrum from Starlin Castro.

Also, all hail Jonathan Herrera.

Some Javy news...he's about two or three weeks from getting into AAA games as of a report on BN today. He says he's 100% today. There is still shady information on La Stella, too...what a frustrating season it has to be for him.

None taken. I just think umpires have been terrible as a whole this year. Maybe it's because the games mean more this year to me or maybe it's because I hate umpires... all of them... on every level.

I really think this is it. The low strike has been an issue for a while, so much so that they talked about asking the umps to not call it so much, clearly they didn't care for that suggestion.

I've been plenty pissed about the low strike for a handful of years now, but typically it'd pass because i'd remind myself, it's not like it matters, and thanks to those shite teams, we got bryant and schwarber.

he only hits when his batting helmet is fricked up...but he's batting 1.000 when it is.

I wasn't sure if we were allowed to get hits with 2 outs and runners in scoring position. That's was neat. Let's do it some more.

Wow. Kinda the one thing you can't do there.

I'm not sure what the actual numbers are but in years past I've been convinced that we have less shutdown innings after scoring in the previous half inning than any other team in MLB (2 of 3 tonight!)
