Lots of good news to share. First, the Cubs are 39-30. That's the first time they've been 9 games better than .500 since 2009. When is the last time we can remember them being .500 at all other than Opening Day?
Tsuyoshi Wada threw yesterday with minimal pain, so he may not miss a start.
Dexter Fowler pinch hit yesterday, walked, and was immediately removed for a pinch runner in the final inning. He wasn't up there to bunt, either...he was swinging for a hit which is a good sign. A not so good sign is that he hobbled to first (apparently, from other first hand accounts) and was pinch run for. He is still day to day.
Kyle Schwarber made his debut at Iowa and went 0 for 4 with 2 K and threw out one of four base stealers. He also had a passed ball. Oof.
Mike Olt started in Iowa as well and went 0 for 3 and made an error at 3B. Oof again.
Neil Ramirez is also at Iowa and he has been cruising...he could be very close.
2015 first rounder out of Cincinnati Ian Hap went 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and a steal. So far to start his young professional career, he's hitting .350/.435/.750/1.185 with 2 2B, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 2 BB and 5 K. Promising, yet small sample size. He may be promoted soon.
Carl Edwards, Jr. had a 2 inning, 3 K, 1 H outing last night for Iowa as well.
ETA: Almost forgot the most important part of this OP...Carrie Muskat tweeted that Javy Baez posted on his Instagram that he's headed to Arizona to begin rehab.
(Tweeting about Instagramming...what a time to be alive!)

The only teams with better records than the Cubs are the Pirates, AL All-Star team, the hackers, and the hacked.

8th extra inning win of the season last night.
That's great for a young club.
I love this team.

And 9th walk off. Great team to watch.

Even if this team doesn't see any postseason action this season is already a big success IMO
To see Epstein/Hoyer's long term plan finally come to fruition is incredibly satisfying. The fact that we are 1 SP (Price/Greinke), another bullpen guy, and another solid bench player from World Series contention is pretty damn good

This is when i have to stop myself from getting greedy. We've won the first 2 against the dodgers and i was hoping for a split...well we've got that as of today, but alas...now i want a sweep and if we lose the next two i'll be very disappointed.

Important to get the first two against Kershaw and Grienke.

Cubs sign 2nd rounder Donnie Dewees to overslot deal. Dewees was considered one of the best collegiate hitters in the draft along with first rounder Ian Happ. Dewees' bonus is about $1.7MM, coming close to the bonus of the final player in the first round and the first player in the supplemental round.

Great catch by the guy with the baby last night.
This is turning into a hell of a fun team to watch. The summer should be interesting!

I wish the Cox MLB Extra Innings package showed the HD feed for WGN. I love the local, Cubs focused call instead of ESPN's BS, but dammit it's nice to watch a game in HD from time to time. Much easier on the eyes. Not so much on the ears.

You have Extra Innings, but the games are in standard definition? That sucks. I guess you could always use your computer or phone as well.

They all come in standard. BR area. But the schedule screen has a note saying 'not all games available in HD'. I'm assuming some areas get HD feeds but I haven't seen any here this year. I know WGN broadcasts in HD in Chicago area.

That sucks. Because they're in hd in all the chicago viewing area channels (abc wgn and comcast)

quote:Instead of Extra Innings, you should pay for MLV.TV Premium next season. You can get that anywhere on any device. Including your smart TV, PS4, Xbox One, tablet or phone.

PS, who had a feeling we'd lose to the Dodgers last night after knocking off Kershaw and Grienke?

Outfield of Denorfia, Sczur, and Coghlon is tough to watch.

When you buy Extra Innings, it comes with MLB.tv premium. If you can get Extra Innings for a discount, then it is absolutely the best package.
