CHC Thread | Grimm and Szczur Recalled | CHC (Lester) @ STL (Lynn)

Justin Grimm and Matt Szczur have been recalled and Anthony Varvaro DFA'd, Junior Lake to AAA. Varvoro, we hardly knew ye.
So, I was definitely on the let's cut Chris Coghlan some slack bandwagon. Turns out I may have been on to something as he's the major leaguer who makes the LEAST soft contact in ALL OF MLB LINK).
South Bend pitcher Jeremy Null has again pitched 8 scoreless innings, upping his line to 30.2 IP, 0.59 ERA, 0.750 WHIP, 26/1 K/BB. He is a guy that we have to start watching now.
Dylan Cease, one of last year's draftees who had Tommy John surgery, was back on the mound yesterday as he threw 45 pitches in a simulated game. Hopefully he, Carson Sands and Justin Steele will wind up in Eugene before the year is over.
The past two nights sucked. I mean, they really blew. The Cubs lost three big leads in two games they could have won. These are the trials of a young team...they are seeing the most pitches per AB and drawing an insane amount of walks but they are also striking out way too much--which also leads the league (or puts them near the top).
Kyle Schwarber is awesome...for April, he hit .375/.471/.714 with 12 walks vs. 15 strikeouts. He's just insane...he currently sits at .342/.457/.644/1.100 with 5 HR, 15 RBI, 5 2B, 1 3B, and a 19/17 K/BB. Dan Vogelbach is just as incredible....348/.443/.562/1.005 with 3 HR, 15 RBI, 8 2B, 1 3B and a 19/16 K/BB.
Gleyber Torres is off to a great start and has reached safely in 13 straight games--.333/.429/.411/.840--he's only 18 years old. Javy Baez hit a long HR over the fair pole last night. The play was reviewed, Javy hit the next pitch to the wall and it was caught...Javy and manager Marty Pevey both lost their shite and were ejected. Apparently, it's the second HR in the last four days that got called back after replay. Both times Pevey was tossed.

I told someone in this thread that about a week ago that said he was sucking. He actually isn't sucking at all.

Yes.

Absolutely. We had chances late, too, to get some runs in and tie the game up last night. It always hurts to see the bases left loaded.

Tough to see us lose these leads in these kind of games but we have to remember we're going against the best team in baseball at the moment. Only ML team with 20 wins and on an 8 game win streak
Tonight is very important for this young team because we have Lester going and if we lose tonight we drop back to .500/possibly 3rd in the Central
If he can get us 6/7 solid innings and the bullpen can find a way to not make a mess we can right the ship.

At what point do we start to worry that Lester may not get his shite together? Lucky for us, Arrieta is pitching like an ace.

Lester's last start: 6 IP, 3 ER, 10 K and 1 BB. Not too bad.

He gave up 3 hits through 7 scoreless innings on Friday. He looks to have turned the corner.
SB I think those are his stats 2 starts ago.

I read the stat line wrong on BR...that was his last April start. His last start, May 1, he went 7 IP, 4 K, 1 BB, 0 ER and his ERA went from 6.23 to 4.71.
He's getting a lot better. We really need him to go 7 or more tonight.

Possibly a low scoring game tonight. Lynn had 10 K's in 7 innings his last outing, and he doesn't seem to get a lot of run support.

Need to get off the losing streak tonight or tomorrow. Then we can pay back Mil with a 3 game weekend set up there.

I was looking for this thread. I've been up in the enemy thread all night.
I feel like we need 6 in the 9th to pull this one out.

Rondon hasn't pitched in a week. What could go wrong here?

1-2 count and he grooves a fastball.

We seriously need to figure out wtf is going on in the 6th inning. Given up 25 runs or so in that inning alone.
