Following a meeting called by general manager David Griffin to inform the team that coach David Blatt had been fired, Cavs players held an extended and spirited players-only meeting, sources told ESPN.com. It turned into an airing of grievances, including by stars LeBron James,Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, but eventually led to an agreement that has been a basis for the Cavs' recent strong play.

"It was like ripping off a scab," one team source said. "And it was exactly what needed to happen. I think it was what [Griffin] was hoping for."

Said another source: "It was very healthy for the team. It probably needed to happen weeks ago."

Talk about damage control... Yeesh. I wonder how many more negative things will be "revealed" from Blatts tenure.

what does this even mean. you are fricking professionals getting paid to play under the coach your franchise has hired. You give it 100% all the time, lebron is just a total bitch.

Watched them play lastnight. Showed alot more energy.

Which leads me to believe they were all dogging it until Blatt got fired.

I had been reading on Cavs forums ever since the beginning of last season that all the players really didn't like him and thought he was in over his head. He was also hated by most of the Cleveland media because of his arrogance. He believed him being hot shite in Europe would equal him being hot shite here and that wasn't taken well by them.

Idk the truth. But there had been rumblings and signs of a strong dislike of him from players and the media for a while now.

That's basically what I can glean. He thought players should've respected him as an established coach but they didn't because he.. wasn't. He didn't have the perspective of the NBA being the highest level where you will have to prove yourself, no one cares about other leagues. He just didn't get that. And they were spoiled prima donnas.

I don't think there are winners and losers here. It was probably the right decision, there was an impasse that couldn't be resolved.

There was a piece on SC I saw during lunch. Richard Jefferson and Mo Williams giving off the impression that Blatt wasn't getting anything from the team. Definitely intentional that they let two role players say that, but so far the result is kind of hard to argue with. Cavs hadn't beaten a title contender all season and then pushed the Spurs shite running a faster pace style offense.

I get the whole "he doesn't deserve to be fired" argument, but this is professional sports where almost very little is truly deserved. Ultimately they all deserve what they are entitled to, and Blatt got a nice chunk of change for coaching a year and a half. Plus if he is as good of a coach as everyone is acting he will get scooped up very quickly and get two salaries for one job.

What happens if the Cavs somehow win the title? Does this board implode? LeBron would then become GOAT player and GOAT GM. Chad and CPT would self implode

They might implode over LeBron but they will completely forget about Blatt and their criticism.

The same people shitting all over this move would be giving Blatt zero credit if they had a Warriors-esque record and looked like true contenders. They underachieve a little, can the coach and they act like he was the reason for the 30 wins. As if they're gonna suck now. Reality, those same people won't be shocked if the Cavs improve and win a title some time in the next 3 years.

This isn't a major bonehead move that's gonna hurt the team, and they know that, it's just the reason du jour to hate on LeBron. When it blows over, so will their criticism because they never really believed it anyways.

I felt sorry for Blatt at the time of the firing, but the guy wasn't good enough of a coach for the Cavs job. This is the same guy that called a play for Lebron to inbound the ball at the end of that playoff game vs the Bulls last year. That's grounds for termination right there.
