Not sure about Cassard, but Blankenship start a baseball company is going to start working for them full time. I believe it's called 2D Sports

Cassard is part of 2D Sports as well.. there is way more money in youth tournaments and "showcases", than there is in HS baseball

Is the travel ball thing bigger in SWLA than in other areas?

I imagine it's pretty big almost everywhere by now. The problem is that the recreational leagues are almost non existent. It's not b/c of the "travel ball", it's b/c of today's society. Kids don't play outside like they did 30 years ago. Rec. leagues had plenty of kids w/ baseball fundamentals / skills b/c they played all of the time. The rec. leagues today have 12 yr old kids that can't even catch a ball ! The teams are made up of 10 kids w/ ZERO baseball fundamentals / skill and 1 or 2 others that have it. In order for these kids to get reps and learn the game they have to get on a team w/ kids that are skilled as they are, and play against other skilled / fundamental kids b/c they get ZERO of that in the rec. leagues. The bad part of the "travel ball" is that they pick out the biggest and strongest kids at age 7-8 and leave the others behind. 75% of these kids tap out at age 12 while the late blooming kids grow later. Unfortunately the kids left behind quit playing baseball b/c they see what the rec. league has become and they move onto other sports / hobbies. It's a double edged sword.
