Calipari has made it known to New Orleans Pelicans officials that he's interested in the team's vacant head-coaching job, a source close to Calipari said Tuesday.

There have been exploratory conversations between Calipari and the Pelicans, the source said, but it doesn't appear the team would be willing to meet his financial demands to leave Kentucky.

But Calipari makes about $8 million annually and recently agreed to a one-year contract extension through 2022, which he hasn't yet signed. The $3 million gap in annual compensation is a major sticking point for Calipari

I don't believe that the Pels have disclosed a budget for their next head coach, nor do I believe that "league sources" would know it anyway

I can sure as hell tell you that any leaks about how much the Pels are willing to pay aren't coming from them. Loomis and Co are as tight lipped as they come. Bordering on crazy paranoia with how close they keep things to the vest.

If anything, this is leaks coming from potential coaching hires to try and negotiate through the media.

Even though Anthony and Tyreke are in NOLA, I have no interest in the Pelicans or any other job. I have a great job and I'm happy at UK.

Lol, of course he is going to say that. I'm not saying he is lying, but coaches always say this.

Didn't the same dude say he wasn't interested in leaving Memphis, and then a week later he was gone to Kentucky?

March 27, 2009 - Calipari, who just completed his ninth season with the Tigers, told a group of reporters at Wilson Air Center today that Memphis is "where I want to coach." "I want to be here," Calipari said today. "This is where I want to coach, and my name will be tied to every job that's open, and our fans I think have gotten used to it."

April 1, 2009 - After over a day of deliberation, John Calipari is headed to Kentucky. The coach sent a text message to ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Tuesday evening saying, "I am accepting the UK job! Go Big Blue, coach Cal."
