Don't know if this has ever been discussed here, but how do you think Bruce Lee would fair in todays MMA? With his speed, quickness, and work ethic, I believe he could be the lightweight champion.

With the way he studied so many fighting styles, i think he would have also studied grappling had he needed it to fight. I know this is all hypothetical, but i think he would do well

He was way ahead of the curve for his time as for as cross training other disciplines and weight training. He did train in some grappling disciplines.

If you had a time machine took him in his prime and stuck him in the cage he would get murdered. However if he was around today and dedicated to training and fighting, he would probably be a legit pro.

FWIW he would probably be a bantamweight.

You're correct about the bantamweight, but i was assuming he would be in the UFC where lightweight is the lowest division.

He would get man handled in the UFC's LW division. Lee was a small dude.

Yeah i saw that he weighed around 146 w/o cutting weight.

I guess i'm letting my prejudice and awe of Bruce Lee get in the way of logic. I still think he would adjust to today's fight game and do really well if he was committed to fighting.

I agree, but not at LW. No matter how skilled you are size matters.

see : GSP vs. BJ Penn II, Lesnar vs. Couture, etc.

This is true, but we all saw Bruce Lee beat Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and he was way bigger

Sorry I'm venting on you but this has been voted one of the top ten most annoying casual MMA fans comments. Let's see if I can find it.

No problem. I did a search and didn't see anything. I'm also not a casual MMA fan, but i'm watching a show on Bruce Lee and it got me thinking. I figured it wasn't the first time to be discussed.

Good article and i agree with what he was saying about movie fighting and Jackie Chan. All he said was that Bruce Lee was the original mixed martial artist and it would be a blast to see him compete today.

I think he was annoyed by people who think other movie fighters could compete in MMA
