I'm guessing no one will touch him by the deadline and he would only be able to play for the Pats.

And they give zero fricks to give. There is a reason they are in contention every year and this is a big part of it.

Blunt only has himself to blame. If he wasn't such a head case, he'd have a team by now.

I've never heard of that rule & am an NFL life hard.

If it was anyone other than Blount, they wouldn't do this.
It's basically is an insult to him, inferring teams would only want to sign him for inside knowledge on the Pats & cut later. This is a deterrent to that, no matter how slimy.

The tender, which is a seldom-used mechanism, means that if Blount remains unsigned past July 22, he can only play for the Patriots during the 2017 season. If he signs before that date with another team, Blount would count toward the 2018 compensatory draft pick formula. The tender carries a value of 110 percent of a player's base salary from the year before, which would amount to $1.1M for Blount.

Blount was the only player in the NFL to receive the May 9 tender this year, a source said.

OP, you can clip in the relevant material next time.

So in summary, the Patriots get a compensatory pick when someone hires Blount.
No one else used this mechanism. Ok.

Bill Bellichek gets compensatory picks a lot. Did you know that?

Let's see how that compensatory pick is used next year. You can bet someone will want Blount.

slimy seems to fit the case where someone hires him just to learn the Patriots inside info.

reasonable care seems to describe the Patriots move.

besides, someone will pick him up and the Patriots will select the star of D II with the pick. The star of D II will score the winning TD in the 2022 super bowl as Jimmy G hits him out of the slot for the win.

Lol. It's in the CBA, and Bill is well known to get as many comp picks as possible.

If this was any team other than the Pats everyone would be talking about how Blount is getting screwed and players are going to be nervous to sign with them. Since it's the Pats everyone says oh they're so smart and businesslike

Pats didn't write the rules, just use them to their fullest to benefit their team. Fans of other teams should be pissed at their team's front office for not taking advantage.

Doesn't this mean he is guaranteed a 10% raise from last year? You'd think he'd be happy since no one else had signed him yet..

Maybe it's the fact they've been in 7 Superbowls since 2000, winning 5 of them them. Just maybe people want to play for that sort of organization.

I don't see why a $1.1 million salary would be a problem for any team wanting to sign him. So worst case scenario he has to be a patriot? Oh no boo hoo.
