The SEC still has way more value than the B1G.

at best even or slightly ahead. B1G is in bigger markets.

The lower tier games in the B1G are way behind those in the SEC. Even with Mizzou being a dumpster fire, they are far better than Rutgers, Maryland and Purdue.

quality also has little to do with it. The ratings for the scrub games are not big enough to worry about.

You can't depend on 2-3 teams to bring in all your ratings. Just because they are in bigger markets doesn't mean that people are watching.

I've wondered which conference from top to bottom based on ratings and market share and alumni and fanbases is more valuable. The one problem the SEC has is that Florida and Texas it's biggest states are split. You have FSU and Miami in FL and Texas in TX to compete with.

I do hope though ESPN and the B1G work out a deal. I like having the B1G and SEC on ESPN.

actually, you can. Ever heard of the 80-20 principle? What moves the needle is the big programs, not whether the Noon EST games get a 2 or 1.5 rating.

but it does mean networks/advertisers will pay. People get too caught up in the ratings for 1 game. The suits look at the big picture. if .5% of NYC watches, that's more people than if 100% of Birmingham or Baton Rouge is watching. Why do you think the SEC wanted d A&M add Mizzo? TV markets is why.

The SEC and B1G are easily the 2 most valuable college properties. The biggest selling point for the SEC is quality and loyal, rabid fans. For the B1G it is the market size and history.

I'm not sure B1G brass care if anyone watches, as long as they can shove the B1G network down subscribers throats. Adding Rutgers and the DMV area gave them MILLIONS more people paying whatever it is to have the B1G networks (like a dollar or 50 cents or 2 dollars whatever).

Believe it or not, ESPN has been somewhat financially struggling. That's one reason they've axed any "talent" that had a sizable contract.

ESPN gets a lot of their money from cable subscribers, and people are cord cutting like crazy. I'd say about half my friends at this point have ditched cable or satellite for other options.

Disney actually has been grumbling about ESPN being a drag on their overall performance (they are doing great outside of ESPN).

Isn't cable cutting hurting Fox, NBC and CBS as well? It can't just hurt ABC and ESPN. Digital antennas can't make up that much of a loss for OTAs
