I think the Rose Bowl is always on the 2nd when the first is a Sunday. It has nothing to do with playoffs. They are still getting Jan 1, even when they don't have the playoff games.

I will say it did seem like the committee just kind of fell in love with the top few B1G teams and spun it to keep them up -- every win against each other was a good win and loss was a good loss. That said, the out of conference wins by OSU, Mich, and Wisconsin justified it somewhat.
