Friend of mine and I are heading to Astros / Rays game in October. Wanted to get some good BBQ. Are there any really good places near the ballpark, or will we need to get a ride to get better? Brisket, ribs, sausage.

Where are y'all staying? Its a short drive up 45 but Old Town Spring has corkscrew BBQ which is pretty good.

Is Jackson Street BBQ any good? Mixed reviews online.

J-Bar-M hits proximity and quality. Would be the best recommendation. It's in East Downtown, probably 1.5-2 miles from the stadium.

Jackson Street closed. Go to Pit Room Truth or Pinkerton’s. Pit Room is the closest

I'll back Shane here that Pinkertons is amazing, it's about 12 minutes or so away in the eastern part of the Heights. Probably my favorite BBQ.

I will say if you want to stay close to the ballpark, J-Bar-M is fantastic food with great downtown views and live music. Their pit master left and went to Killen's in Pearland but whoever they replaced him with has been able to keep up the quality.

Also - Houston's best BBQ listings

If convenience is a big factor, there’s a Killen’s inside the park. Limited menu but it has the 3 things you listed.

I've heard Killens in the stadium sucks, I'd skip. Depending on game time and day of week you've got Pit Room, Truth, Pinkertons all a shortish uber away. If you have time Killens in Pearland or Corkscrew (before they sell out) are great options. I really liked J Bar M more than I expected.

If I want convenience and to make sure they are open later in the day I'd probably go Pit Room to be safe.

JBarM lost their head pitmaster and it's not the same. Don't go there.

Go to Truth or Pinkerton's.

I've had it since then and had a quality meal and experience. I think it's held up.

Thank you all.
We would want the best bang for the buck. Have not been to Houston since 2006, and might not be back for a while.
Pinkertons, Truth, J-Bar-M all sound like great options.
