BCS computer rankings if they still compiled them

I jotted these in a spreadsheet. It's the six BCS computers in their current forms, meaning a few of them use margin of victory now. Each team's top and bottom ranking are eliminated like back in the old days, and the middle four are used, and the teams are ranked based on those averages. If you see "26" somewhere, that means that the team is unranked in that computer. Just info to share in case anyone is interested.

It at least eliminates any sort of big name bias.

Not enough emphasis on recruiting rankings for my taste.

I thought a bcs like system would select the final 4 for sure. Turns out I was way off.

Not really. The top four in the BCS computers last year were Ohio State, Oregon, Florida State, and Alabama, so no team has ever finished in the top four in the computers and not made it to the CFP yet.

Sagarin doesn't even do his BCS rankings anymore does he?

Right, his "ELO Chess" ranking, which eliminated MOV from the criteria as per contemporaneous BCS rules, is no longer provided on his rankings site. I used his "RECENT" ranking for no particular reason.

Looking at how far out of synch Sagarin is with the others for half the teams, I'd say Jeff should get out of the game altogether.

Too bad he doesn't still keep up his Elo-Chess ranking just for shits and giggles. I wish they had kept the human polls and computer rankings to determine the 4 playoff teams. The computers are brutally honest and I don't think there was ever a problem with them. I trust them more than some special committee to tell me who deserves to be in the playoff. I wouldn't have minded just going to 50 percent computer polls/50 percent AP poll to pick the 4 teams. The other conferences wouldn't have gone for that though. The SEC would have got 2 teams in regularly.

The SEC would have gotten two teams in the last three years of the BCS and one other year. They'd also have been completely shut out of the playoffs several years. It would have all balanced out. So if four times out of seventeen years is regularly then you are correct.

However, the Big 12 would have also had two representatives four times while the Big Ten would have had two representatives twice. The ACC and PAC 10 would have had two representatives once.
