The culture surrounding Baylor University and its football program not only affected how coaches and administrators handled allegations of sexual assault against players but also kept the university from randomly drug testing its student-athletes for marijuana and other recreational drugs -- making it one of the few major collegiate programs not to do so, according to an upcoming book about the university's sexual assault scandal.

Baylor regents had no idea that the university wasn't randomly drug testing its student-athletes until the Philadelphia law firm the school hired to examine how it handled allegations of sexual assault by students, including football players, turned up the issue. Already reeling from bad publicity around the mishandling of sexual assault cases, the lack of drug testing was another indicator of just how insular the football program had been under former coach Art Briles.

You thought Penn St couldn't get any worse, then it did.

I keep thinking the same thing with Baylor. That athletic program is a complete frick up

You have a men's basketball coach and program that covered up for a murderer and tried to throw the victim under the bus, then you have this.

Wtf. We kicked a 5* WR off the team for failing drug test because he couldn't lay off the marijuana.

He must not have been meeting his rape quotas for the month.

"That was my first realization that this was likely to not end up well," Baylor regent J. Cary Gray said in "Violated," which was authored by ESPN reporters Paula Lavigne and Mark Schlabach and will be released by Center Street on Aug. 22.

The several reports of rape weren't anything to be concerned about I guess.

Paula Lavigne is going to drag it out with her book. Should be an interesting read. She's already gotten some heat for bullying victims into sharing their medical records.

I wonder how she touches on Sam U, who was convicted, then later had his conviction over turned.

Also if she will mention that athletes were kicked out off the team for failing drug tests.

I'm waiting until the details of the alleged BU Football gang rape are finally released.

Are you one that believes that Briles was taken down by jealous Aggies, Horns, Frogs, and biased reporting from the DMN?

AND THE ESPN MEDIA!!!!

nah. frick Briles and the ignorant Baylor fans that think that shite. Do I believe he was shady and wasn't afraid to turn his head to serious issues, absolutely. Do I believe that gang rapes happened after every touchdown scored, no. The fact is that 1 player has been convicted of sexual assault under Briles at Baylor, the TPOS Tevin Elliot (Edit to add: That is still 1 too many). Oakman pending.

I wonder if it was an athletic department policy not to drug test or if it was only with regard to their football team.

Had the police not been called to the scene by multiple witnesses...

Ironic. You changed it to fail. In reality, your post is a fail.

You are talking about Josh Gordon, who was a three star recruit. He wasn't the "fall" or "fail" guy we are talking about. I am talking about Robbie Rhodes, the highest ranked Baylor recruit ever at the time.

I don't think Ole Miss has an internal drug testing policy either. Coincidence that they are also rampant cheaters? I think not.
