Athletes have this bizarre fascination with having a large "entourage" of family, friends, staff, and random flunkies that follow them around every time they go out. They typically are picking up the tab for like 50 people at a time no matter where they go.

The moochers mooch and they waste their money in a sad attempt to impress people with what a balla they are.

I remember once reading an article that Shaq was paying like 4K a month in cell phone bills because he was paying for hundreds of accounts for all his peeps.

I doubt some guys getting a 10 day contract are skewing the information that much. The bankruptcy number is 60%. Lets say we dump out the small 10 day contracts or the guys who are in and out in a year, I think its safe to say the number is still at least 50%.

Look at the expenses of these people. That 42k a year is around half a million a year. Average salary is 5 million. After taxes and agent costs, we can call that 3 million. These are conservative numbers because we are just basing this off the 50 guys that signed up for the study. These guys probably realize whats at stake and their spending habits are probably on the lower side.

I love when people assume investments = you automatically produce profits. Many investments fail, don't make money, or lose money. Not to mention if your investment does produce profits, you've got to take out taxes and you have to beat inflation.

Thats the sad thing about this whole ordeal. Their 'investments' plenty of times are friends and family dumping their money into dumb shite(real estate, restaurants, etc). Theres always some uncle that has great ideas for their money

Exactly. Even if these guys let "professionals" invest for them it's still a crapshoot. Now if everyone was pulling in Lebron money they could just invest in T bills and call it a day

When there morons start talking about privilege and other "social injustices"... Just remember these guys spend as much in a month on junk than we make in a year...

And they still have a frick ton to waste. $5 million minus taxes is still WAY more than 99% of the country.

Relative to what they make that's really not that much. Think about your actual monthly bill totals and extrapolate your income to 10 million dollars a year. Probably not far off.

Half their money down the drain to taxes and then another fifth on monthly spending. Not to mention poor investing and a lack of income after basketball.

You guys are fricking retarded if you think Express means the clothing store. It's clearly the payments on their AMEX cards.

Well in the article it says the retailer. Im sure a good percentage of this list is paid for with a credit card. Why would they make a credit card company payment separate when everything they buy is with that card?

quote:

Express ($221,108)
Whole Foods Market ($73,113)
Neiman Marcus ($59,610)
Delta ($59,154)
LouisVuitton ($57,945)
IRS ($51,382)
American Airlines ($51,243)
Apple ($49,546)
Walmart ($45,902)
Mercedes-Benz ($44,835)
Target ($44,633)
Best Buy ($43,364)
Ally ($39,956)
Uber ($37,023)
Amazon ($36,990)

From the San Francisco Chronicle article:

quote:

Their top merchants were Express (which signed Stephen Curry as a “brand ambassador” in late 2014), Whole Foods Market, ESPN, Neiman Marcus, Delta Air Lines, Louis Vuitton, American Airlines, Apple, Walmart, Mercedes-Benz’s finance arm, Target and Best Buy.

So who exactly is retarded?

That seems kind of low, the average OT baller spends like 42.5 million a month.
