It's a slow day here.

Since I looked at the hitters the other day, let's look at the pitchers ranked in the top 30 today.

30. Andrew Wilson (RH RP, 24 years old, A+) - 6 games, 9.2 IP, 3.72 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 14 K/9, 0 BB/9

29. Todd Redmond (RH SP, 27 years old, AAA) - 4 starts, 20.2 IP, 2.61 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 11.8 K/9, 2.6 BB/9

27. Jaye Chapman (RH RP, 25 years old, AAA) - 8 games, 10.1 IP, 1.74 ERA, .87 WHIP, 9.6 K/9, 2.6 BB/9

24. Carlos Perez (LH SP, 20 years old, A) - 4 starts, 13 IP, 15.23 ERA, 3.00 WHIP, 8.3 K/9, 9.0 BB/9

23. Cory Gearrin (RH RP, 26 years old, AAA) - 7 games, 12.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, .97 WHIP, 10.9 K/9, 1.5 BB/9

19. JR Graham (RH SP, 22 years old, A+) - 3 starts, 18 IP, 3.00 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 7.5 K/9, 3.5 BB/9

17. Gus Schlosser (RH SP, 23 years old, A+) - 4 starts, 25 IP, 5.04 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 6.5 K/9, 1.1 BB/9

15. Dismaster Delgado (LH SP, 23 years old, A+) - On DL

13. Cody Martin (RH SP/RP), 22 years old, A+) - 4 games, 3 starts, 15.1 IP, 4.11 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, 11.7 K/9, 5.3 BB/9

9. JJ Hoover - TRADED

8. Zeke Spruill (RH SP, 22 years old, AA) - 4 starts, 24 IP, 3.38 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 6.0 K/9, 2.6 BB/9

5. Sean Gilmartin (LH SP, 22 years old, AA) - 4 starts, 26 IP, 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 3.8 K/9, 1.7 BB/9

3. Randall Delgado - Majors

2. Arodyz Vizcaino - Out for year

1. Julio Teheran (RH SP, 21 years old, AAA) - 4 starts, 16.2 IP, 3.78 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, 7.0 K/9, 5.4 BB/9

Not that we are going to need much pitching to come up over the next few years, but I actually think we may be a little better off from the hitting side rather than the pitching side. Been a long time since we have been able to say that.

Venters has struck out the last 7 batters he's faced, throwing just 26 pitches (21 strikes).

1) Hanson
2) Beachy
3) Minor
4) Teheran
5) Delgado/Gilmartin?

It's good to see Gilmartin pitching well. We've had some pretty ridiculous drafts and young hispanic free agent signings in the past 3-5 years.

Yeah Venters looked as unhittable last night as I have ever seen him before, and that's saying something. His pitches are biting so damn hard right now. I was thinking to myself last night I wonder how long before he ends up on another team as their closer.

He started in 2009, correct? Any rumblings of making him the next CJ Wilson?

I think that is a pretty safe assumption, and all will be relatively cheap at that time.

At some point, we are going to have to move one of the arms.

And I think Cody Martin is a future closer. Not sure why they wanted to try him out as a starter this year because he was a reliever all of last year. Hopefully he will move back into that role soon as it will speed up his process.

April 2010.

And I don't think so...he was a pretty mediocre starter in the minor leagues. No reason to change his role with as good as he's been in my opinion

Be interesting to see if we pick up Huddy's option next year. Would free up a lot of cap if we didn't, but are the young guys fully ready?

I'm sure they will pick it up unless he pitches poorly all year. The front office clearly likes mixing in vets all throughout the team to offset the youth.

I don't think they'll pick it up unless he really pitches well this year. They'll decline it and re-sign him for less than $9M.

I'd be down for that. Imagine he'd take the discount too.

It is rather interesting how well many of our offensive prospects are doing, particularly since they were all mostly unheralded (except for Salcedo). It's definitely nice to be able to watch some possibly legit hitters again after Jason and Freddie moved up.

Keith Law apparently trashed Gattis during his chat. I now expect him to be the next Josh Hamilton.
