Judge never touched the bag going back, he's out.

They never tagged him, he is safe

Wouldn't Astros have to Challenge that, mate?

Apparently Judge passed 2B and passed it, then on his return to 1B on the flyball he did not touch 2B.... so the Yankees say he was safe back at 1B which they won, then the Astros threw to 2B since he did not touch it and he was out.

That was awesome
Judge knew he never touched second so he just went for it
Wouldn’t have mattered either way
So much fun

Joe challenged the play at first and AJ was going to challenged he never touched 2nd going back but he didn't have too. All he has to do is appeal it.

Ok watching with no volume. I’m still confused

Judge was on first...he ran on contact. Pop out to right. Judge touched and rounded second...Reddick threw back to first to double off Judge, who didn't touch second on his way back to first, even though he was safe getting back to first after review.
Astros only needed to throw to second to have Judge be called out, Judge knew it and tried to best the throw to second.

What I don't understand is why does he have to tag the bag going back? He never tagged up in the first place.

Because he had advanced by rounding second.

Judge was called out at first.
Yankees challenge the first base play and he was safe.
On the play though judge touched 2nd base and rounded it.. when he came back to first after the fly out he did not retouch 2nd base again..you have to touch all bags going back.
The Astros were going to appeal the play at 2nd for not touching in which the umpire looked ready to call him out but to make it official he asked the new batter to get in the box first.
Judge knew he never touched second and just went for a steal lol and was thrown out.

Correct, he didn't tag up on first...had he waited until it was caught, and then ran to second sure no problem.
He left first before the out was made...and touched second and rounded...he needs to retouch the base in order to return to his original base.
Otherwise players would just cut across the fricking Infield if necessary.
