HERE!!!

The Astros might be a .500 team this season, but at least they are finally moving in the right direction with younger players and devoting themselves to player development.

Not to mention the biggest nugget of all a looming sell of the Stros by uncle D. :crossesfingers:

hoo, me you and 91 should get together and make one. We just need to see how close we are on expectations. Talking to 91 we both were think around .500

I would like to contribute to that as well.

I see Sanchez as our primary shortstop rather than Barmes. I know he's listed third on the depth chart, but from what I've seen last year, I think his speed and potential to get on base will get him an everyday job.

He was a great fill in when Manzella went down with an injury. He wont take the position from Barmes though

I feel like Sanchez is better than a washed up Barmes. Manzella is great but is injury prone.

I hope Barmes hits .280, but I see him as this year's Preston Wilson. I think we will designate him for assignment by August.

Sanchez is most definitely not an everyday player. His defense is atrocious, and he is slow as balls. I doubt he'll ever hit as well as he did last year if you look at his minor league track record.

I think Sanchez played really well last year, given the situation. He's not Ozzie Smith, maybe not even Andujar Cedeno, but he is the best player we can place at short IMO.

If Wade hadn't acquired Barmes I would rather Manzella get another crack at the starting job than watch Sanchez stumble around the field like a drunken idiot. He blows and has already reached his ceiling.

Again, not saying he is a future HOF, but he isn't as bad as you're making him out to be. Maybe you have a personal vendetta against him?

I have been guilty of hating players on teams I love as well. I remember I used to hate Adam Everett. Before that it was Tim Bogar. It happens to the best of us.

Everett's superb defense made up for his offensive shortcomings. Sanchez does NOTHING well.

Hitting .194 doesn't make up for anything.

Sanchez hits well in the clutch. He drove in six runs (Everett never did that) against St Louis in August, had a game-winning hit in a game against Cincy in September. He's pretty good. He should be a utility player, not an everyday starter, but with the players we have, I think he is the best option we have.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree, sir!

Everett is widely considered the best defensive player of his generation. He saved more runs than any other player in baseball while he played (at the most important defensive position in baseball mind you).

From 03-07 Everett had a positive WAR in Houston. In fact, in '06 he had a WAR of 3.8 which is pretty damn good. That's higher than Derek Jeter in '96, '02, '08, and obviously '10. I didn't include '03 because Jeter was hurt. Everett's fielding WAR in '06 was 4.0 which is the highest in the history of baseball(at any position). LINK

Now you are probably thinking that Jeter had a couple of VERY down years for Everett to be worth more as an everyday SS than him. Wrong. In '02 Jeter (3.4 WAR) had a .297 BA .373 OBP and .794 OPS. He also hit 18 HR to go with 75 RBI, 32 SB, and 124 runs. Everett hit (in '06) .239 BA, 6HR, 59 RBI, 9 SB, and 52 runs.

So, despite the fact that Jeter's offensive numbers from '02 completely dwarf what Everett was able to accomplish at the plate in '06, Everett's WAR was still higher solely because his defense was so outstanding.

Angel Sanchez's WAR in only 269 PAs this past year was -0.9. He would have probably gotten double the PAs as a starter and his WAR would have dropped even further. Yes, I said Angel Sanchez had a negative WAR, so theoretically the Astros could have inserted a random player from AAA or the waiver wire and gotten better production. Adam Everett never had a season as low as Sanchez last year.

Here are a few more links. Rob Neyer praising Everett as the greatest SS of the past decade. LINK A link from fangraphs when Everett signed with Tigers in '08 LINK Here's my favorite part quoted
quote:

However, over the last five years, Everett has also been something like the very best defensive player in baseball. His UZR/150 since 2003: +14.4, +16.9, +13.8, +24.9, +24.4, +10. Considering that his peer group have already been selected as the best defenders in the game, the fact that Everett just blew them out of the water speaks to how great he was with the glove. Even while recovering from a fractured fibula and while playing through a shoulder problem, he was still one of the best defensive shortstops in the game last year.

In conclusion, you don't know shite and might as well be blind. I will ignore your worthless opinion from here on out. Have a great day.

Damn dude, a little defensive aren't ya?

Comparing Adam Everett to Derek Jeter is like comparing Joe Montana to Billy Joe Hobert. And what's worse, you put a whole lot of effort doing it. Oh wait, no you didn't. You went to billjamesonline.net and copied and pasted the Jeter vs. Everett section. (Tell Bill I said hi; he stayed at the hotel I used to work at regularly.)

quote:

In fact, in '06 he had a WAR of 3.8 which is pretty damn good. That's higher than Derek Jeter in '96, '02, '08,

Comparing Everett's best year with some of Jeter's worst is just pure stupidity.

It's funny how you left out the fact that Everett can't hit shite. He hit .232 in his last year with the 'Stros. Wandy Rodriguez was hitting .220 at the same point of the season Everett had his season-ending knee injury (thank you Carlos Lee!), just to give you some sort of prospective of how awful this guy was with his bat. He hit .185 last year before Leyland ran his arse out of Detroit.

I really dislike Jeter, and I never in a million years thought I would be defending him. Jeter started his career in '96, and Everett didn't get "full-time" status until '03. So Jeter played seven seasons before Everett, yet Everett is now in the Cleveland farm system, set to play for the Columbus Clippers for $15,000 a month, and you are comparing him to Jeter, a guy that is still in the Yankee lineup?

I really hope that Buck v. Bell gets lifted so that you can not reproduce. It's interactions with people like you that have me thinking eugenic sterilization wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Oh, and of course I'll return the same kind of good-natured sarcasm you so graciously gave me...

Have a nice day.

I just proved you wrong, bro. It's okay that you're mad. I'm not the idiot spewing that Everett was a worthless big leaguer while proclaiming Sanchez would start in front of Barmes (or anyone for that matter).

You actually said this
quote:

I think his speed and potential to get on base will get him an everyday job.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I'm not sure how anyone that watched the Astros last year would say Sanchez has speed. He was one of the slowest players on the team by far. He looks like he is running in quick sand. Also, what on base skills? He had 11 walks in 269 PAs.

Seriously, though, I have you one ignore now. You have the intelligence of a hamster.
