I still don't understand why they thought they needed a committee. Using the BCS formula to pick the top 4 would have been fine.

yep. they absorbed a lot of pressure with this decision tonight. it's gonna be awesome to watch the interviews of the coaches who don't get in.

I used to fill the same way, but I'm slowly changing my mind. The traditional polls were done by journalists and coaches that barely watched any of games. They just followed the pre-season rankings and only moved teams down when they lost and moved teams up based on media hype. The committee seems to be taking this pretty seriously and heavily weighing the strength of schedule and quality of wins/losses more so than the AP, Harris, & Coaches voters have in the past.

You're right. I'm positive that condelezza rice devotes her entire Saturday to CFB and had a film room put into her house so she could watch every game of the other top 25 teams that she didn't see on Saturday.

IMO this is an improvement over using the BCS because the BCS ended up being 2/3 polls, and the polls were taken from a bunch of writers or coaches' assistants who dgaf about watching all the games enough to have an informed opinion.

I'd also bet the committee is letting the computers help them out too, since the computer formulas have been coming out before their rankings do.

Yep, this is how I've felt since day one. At least with the BCS there was the computers. While some people did make the argument, it's pretty absurd to say that a computer program has any bias. But now it's all about the politicking and personalities within that room.

How many games do you think the Selection Committee members need to watch each week? Do you think they watch ESPN, ABC, CBS, Fox or NBC broadcasts with commentary, or do you think they are given coaches film to review? How much time does it take to watch a college football game if you eliminate all the time when the ball is not in play?

Most, not all, but most people who say this can't remember how upset they were when Alabama made it in over Oklahoma State. It's nearly impossible for me to seperate my fanhood and be unbiased about that situation but I reeally think they got it right. And the entire country was through with the BCS after that.

Do you honestly think these celebrity guest pickers watch more football than the average MSB frequent poster?

In my opinion she has no business being on the committee. However it isn't much different than many of the members of the old Harris poll and AP. Most of the coaches even admitted they let others vote for them bc there was no way they could watch the games. At least the committee has enough scrutiny around them so they have to put effort in it. Do I think it's the perfect system? Hell no. Do I think these voters are putting more effort into their votes than previous polls? Without a doubt, YES
