I just can't see how people can say that outside of coaches that have competed for championships, everyone else is all in the same boat.

You can see different levels of quality and Fleck is at the top of the list. If you're looking for a coach how is he not at the top of the list to call after the NC guys like Jimbo Fisher?

Yeah he hasn't coached at the big schools but the skills transfer. You look at the vast majority of the great coaches and they started off winning at a mid-major or small conference. That's a freaking trait that you want to see; they have the confidence in their abilities that they're going to rise to the top no matter what. They don't feel entitled to big jobs right off the bat, or try to backdoor themselves into big jobs without really earning it.

Getting myself angry at this Orgeron crap all over again.

He's a very interesting guy. If he can win at Minnesota, the sky's the limit for him.

Chyna?

Personality wise, she's everything a coach could need.

Reminds me of Tim Brewster. We all know how that worked out for the Gophers.

Man, watching the new episode.

Minnesota is going to have some really nice facilities when they are finished.

And I would have loved to have Fleck at LSU. I bet he could recruit his arse off here.

What would you bet that LSU was one of the 8 schools on his list that he would leave for? I'd bet every dollar I have on it.

Teams are going to really regret not snatching this guy up when they had the chance. Fricking Alleva.

This guy is winning me over by the episode. Alleva should've hired one of those search committee agencies instead of that "I'm the search" Bull he was pulling

Want

WR coach turn energetic HC who dances

quote:

Fleck made sports headlines after his hire with his charisma and attempts to energize to the WMU program, including dancing (The Harlem Shake), posting YouTube videos, adding an in-stadium DJ for games, and establishing a program-wide mantra of "rowing the boat". Fleck participated in a polar bear plunge held at Goldsworth Pond on the Western Michigan campus. The event raised funds for the Michigan Special Olympics, and led Holly Anderson of Sports Illustrated to proclaim Fleck as "the best new hire" for 2013, if only for generating interest in the program.[18][19]

A friend was the kicker for OSU in 2006 when Fleck was a GA there and said he couldn't stand the guy, and neither did many of the coaches. Fleck ran most of the special teams drills and he said he was as amped up as he appears on the show. He tells of one time when Fleck was showing how to do some type of cone drill and he darts around a cone and Luke Fickell, who at the time was the LB coach and was just watching the drill, lays him out with a shoulder. Tressel ended the practice on the spot. He did say Fleck's first wife was a stunner and players kissed up to him just to hang around the wife.

Sounds like a bunch of assistants that didn't care for the upstart GA outshining all of them.

I've watched all of the episodes, and you can't fault the guys energy and work ethic. But I don't think he's ready for a top 10 FBS job.

The gimmicky stuff isn't needed at an LSU, Bama, Ohio State, etc. I think it is perfect for a mid level program that hasn't had much success. I think he is genuine, but those types of tactics can get old after a while. I'm glad LSU passed on him. Maybe in 5-10 years once he settles down a bit.

Thought I read that his first wife was the one who caused the break but I can be wrong

They had a kid die on them almost immediately after birth. Stuff like that tends to wreck a marriage b/c processing the pain is extremely difficult. Hard to really dole out much blame when they were probably an emotional wreck after that. His job keeping him from home so much likely exacerbated things. That death was probably the beginning of the end causing them to slowly drift apart. It is what it is.

That said, PJ kind of irked me when he asked the dude if he had seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when explaining his deal w/the cup and when the guy said no instead of saying "Oh you gotta watch this movie" just went ahead and went directly to the ending and spoiled it. Yea I get that the movie is 20 years old but still... I dunno... It was already a cheese ball motivational tactic he is using. I would think he'd actually have the team sit down and watch the entire thing together instead of just pulling up YouTube to explain what he was getting at. It's not a big thing but it still annoyed me for some reason.
