Dude was butt hurt bad about anyone saying anything bad about his ncaa tournament. I loved his comment that the regular season is just for getting to the "second season". Anyways, just had to hear it. And then he was making the case that its just like the NFL system "based on the meaningless stats". Hey Doug, 32 NFL teams is nothing in similarity to the parity involved in your "300 basketball teams".

it was really bad

when he tried to play the "parity" card i started laughing out loud

i won't even bring up the non-BCS schools

UConn finished like 9th in its own conference

Every way of crowning a champion has it's pro's, cons, and lets say values.

The BCS has it's pro's and con's like every other tournament. I'm a BCS defender bc people don't attack the flaws in a playoff system.

they developed a line of "logic" about a playoff that they accept as true without wondering how it developed

case in point: "champions win when it matters"

as well as the subjectiveness in playoff formula. Do you think the NFL champion would be different most of the years if there were only 8 teams every year, or if they increased it to 16. What the frick makes 12 the magical number where we obtain the "truth" of a champion. frick all that noise, 2 team playoff is the shitz.

Why don't you two just get it over with already and get a room together, put the BCS formula up on a chalkboard, and just have yourselves a good old fashioned circlejerk together.

No shite. Even though no one knows what the hell they mean, strong RPI numbers are considered gold to the selection committee for selecting 68 teams. The BCS variables and numbers are available for the whole world to see, but they are universally hammered for being used to select 2 teams. I've yet to reason this hypocrisy.

I'll be honest here

I dislike Gottlieb for being whiny and having a face like a weasel. He has never been good enough at his job for me to overlook the trivial things i dislike about him

I dont get what you Madness haters would like to replace it with that would be better. Personally I love me some March Madness. SO MUCH better than anything else in College sports imo.

agreed, dude doesn't have the ability IMO for what the PN uses him for, JMO

Other than that, Im a BCS guy and a March Madness guy. They both work fine with me, why do folks have such a big hard-on for the way they think things should be? so stupid

I'm not for replacing anything. I'm not sure what you bcs haters are wanting to replace IT with that wouldn't be trivial, subjective, and still have left out teams bitching.

I love March Madness too. I think it's a great event. But it's not even a matter of defending the BCS. It's dismissing the suggestion that somehow college basketball does it perfect and college football is unjust. Playoffs would be different, but not necessarily better than the BCS.

march madness is highly entertaining and I watch the hell out of it

But IMO it is a lousy way to crown a champion... I'd be fine with it if they let in fewer teams tho

I agree w/ you here. I just refuse to ever engage the 2 original circlejerkers in this thread on this topic b/c they like to pretend there is no logical difference between a 6 or 8-team playoff and a 68-team playoff. People who pretend to be unable to grasp this elementary concept of logic have no intention of having a productive debate. Hence, my suggestion that they just pleasure each other alone in a locked room.

How you going to select 8 teams in a playoff in NCAA football on any given year?

I totally agree there's a difference. However, instituting an 8-team playoff would just open Pandora's box; instead of teams 3, 4 and 5 bitching about not getting their opportunity, we'll have teams 9, 10 and 11. Before you know it, we'd have a 20-team field like in I-AA, which is ridiculous.

I like Gottlieb, but that was kind of bad.

Either way, I don't know why he cares that people are bashing the tournament. It's not like that matters, because it's never going to change.
