Anyone else think the lowest seed to win having to play the #1 seed is dumb?

They already get a first round bye, which is a huge reward in and of itself.
It seems kind of dumb a #7 seed can beat a #2 seed and still have to play the #1 seed. In most tournaments, the reward for knocking off a top seed is an easier path to the championship.
For example, when UMBC beat Virginia in the NCAA tourney, they were rewarded with playing the #8 seed in the next game. Imagine if they had to play the #2 seed instead the next week. It makes no sense.
It should be:
#1 vs winner of #4 vs #5
#2 vs #7 vs winner of #3 vs #6
Once the bracket has been set, the only thing seeds should determine is home field advantage.

No. They earned it during the regular season.

No. I support reseeding

Yes. They earned their tough first round matchup. Once they get past the first round they shouldn’t be punished any further.

A liberal would start this type of thread.

So you think it’s fair that the 10-6 LA Rams would have to play the top 2 seeds back to back while the 7-9 WFT would have to play the #5 and #3 seeds?
Got it

Browns shoulda won their division if they wanted an easier road.

You're better than this, diddlybro.

Well obviously. That’s why they are playing the 2 seed. That’s punishment enough. Beating a #2 seed is more impressive than beating a #5 seed. If the Browns win tonight, they have the best win out of all the playoff teams. Does that not carry any weight?

Do you post this every year when a #6 seed beats a #3 and has to play the #1?

So punish the top seed with a harder road because of an upset?

I can’t believe I’m the only one that disagrees with this...
Everyone saying “they should’ve played better in the regular season”
They are already being punished for having a bad regular season by having to play the #2 seed. It’s really hard to beat the #2 seed. Why should they be punished further.

What do you mean “punish”? They already got a bye. That’s the greatest reward you could ever get.
The entire point of knocking off a #2 seed is that you get to take their spot in the bracket.
And it’s not a “harder” road. There isn’t a single team who wouldn’t choose to play the #4 or #5 seed in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Once the bracket is set, seeds shouldn’t matter. Just play football.

Ummmmm that’s not how it works
The 1 seed would play the 4 seed.
If you assume all the top seeds win, you get:
#1 vs #4
#2 vs #3
You don’t think getting a first round bye and playing the #4 seed is enough of a reward?

I must have found the single most retardedly formatted bracket for this year in existence. They had the top seeds listed on the same side of the bracket for some reason.

The way the new +1 format is laid out, the 2 seed would play the 1 seed in the current brackets.
That’s just the way it looks because of reseeding. The #1 seed traditionally plays the #4 seed.
I just think that if a #7 seed beats a #2 seed, most people would think, “hey, these guys have proven they are much better than 7. They shouldn’t be punished further for what seed they are.”

I see the logic behind your thinking, but I've always been a fan of re-seeding. To me I think the team that excelled all season should be rewarded more than a team that limped into the playoffs and had a good week.
