A Review of Michael Smith & Jemele Hill SC6 after 3 Months

So let’s look at the numbers (all via ShowBuzzDaily.com). For perspective and fairness, I’m including the viewer numbers for Pardon The Interruption at 5:30 pm ET when serving as a lead-in for both 2016 and 2017, and the Sportscenter ratings in 2016 and 2017 for the 6 pm show. These are summarized by week, using the Monday date for 2017. All viewers are in 000s.
Two weeks are set off in italics there. The week of March 13th is NCAA tournament week and none of the programs were aired on ESPN on Thursday or Friday up against the tournament games. The week of April 3rd is opening day of baseball, where ESPN has games broadcast throughout the day, as well as Masters week. Tuesday was the only day where PTI lead into SportsCenter both years on ESPN in the normal time slot. The shows were on ESPN2 for opening day, and the Masters broadcast extends into the evening and SportsCenter (both the 2016 version and SC6) was a 30-minute broadcast at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, sandwiched between Masters live and the replay of the Masters coverage.
Under the old SportsCenter in 2016, the retention rates, that is percentage of viewers relative to the Pardon the Interruption viewership, was just a bit over 60%.
Over the first month that SC6 was on the air, it showed some improvement in that area. Even though the show’s viewer numbers weren’t dramatically higher than the 2016 version, it was going against those trends seen in the PTI numbers. Each of Weeks Two through Four in February showed slightly more viewers in 2017 than in 2016 for the 6 p.m. slot.
That did not continue, though, and since March, SC6 has been performing below the 2016 pace, ranging in a given week from 6% to 20% less viewers compared to 2016.

So, without reading that shite, does it state Smith and Hill suck and their ratings are putrid?

So even of the self loathing individuals that watch Wilbon/Kornheiser, those people still dont want to watch Barbershop: Sports edition?

I know people hate Hill, but Smith is the main reason I wouldn't watch that show if I chose to watch SC at all. When he first started at ESPN I really liked him. For whatever reason he comes across as someone trying way to hard to act like he's bout that life. Dude is fake as hell. Hill is who she is, but I don't completely loath her like others do. In general, it just seems so forced.

When it's on at the gym, it looks like he does a lot of yelling.

See, that's not what it is though. Area 21 is a better example of that. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but KG and company are at least genuine. Nobody feels that way about Smith. Dude is fake as hell.

This.
Dude tries to act like he's hip and down with the kids but he's really just a corny dude. Agreed that it always sounds so forced when he tacks on the popular phrase of the week or whatever into his commentary.

Michael Smith is only good on Sunday morning fantasy now show. Robert Flores was the best host though.

Completely agree. The episodes I've seen, he's always trying to act like a tough guy. It's actually pretty funny.

I've never watched a minute of SC6, but I did see a commercial or promo for it with Smith acting out the barbershop scene from Coming to America. Cringiest shite I've ever seen

Is the drop consistent with the drop from 15 to 16?

Doesnt matter what the numbers say, it would be racist to fire them.

I didn't know this existed until 2 minutes ago and now I wish I could have 2 minutes of my life back. Top 3 worst thing I've ever seen.

They are so, so, so, so bad.
Stop talking about Drake and Rihanna, racism in sports, and pretending to be hood rats when you're not.
TALK ABOUT SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS AND NEWS. ITS NOT THAT HARD.

A good dose of liberal medicine for ESPN to swallow. Couldn't happen to a better bunch of folks

Ain't smith from the 7th ward?
Lawd just the lack of diverse experiences y'all have had around black oeoole is just remarkable.
Nothing fake about Smith, he's just more conformatable being himself now. You'd be surprised at how many of your "friends" aka coworkers are like this in private/predominantly black spaces. Nothing fake about it

What are they doing that's hood rattish ?

I have been watching less and less of ESPN. I understanding they're trying to be more inclusive and cater to a younger audience, but I thought this show was a bad idea from the start. As others have said- I like Hill, and used to like Smith- but his whole shtick has gotten old.
