Idk where the hell I was when Pederson was hired, but his route to a head coaching job is crazy. I don't know anyone that has risen that far, that fast in football. We hear about HS coaches moving to the college ranks and moving up fairly quickly, but to do so in the NFL is nuts.

6 years ago Carson Wentz was the backup QB on his high school team, now he's 2-0 in the NFL.

he was a backup qb in the nfl for upteen years ... not that much of a stretch to see him as a hc in the nfl after 8 years ...

He played awhile in the NFL so it's not like he was just some average Joe high school coach. Still pretty cool though

He played for Holmgren and backed up Favre for a decade or so. It's not like he's JT Curtis or something. Still, impressive, no doubt.

Played against him when he was at Calvary. Had no idea he was moving up the coaching chain then saw him on TV and thought he looked familiar. Shocking moment

Andy Reid was OC at Green Bay for years while Peterson was Favre's back up. When Reid got head gig at Philly brought Peterson with him. Started for year or so then became back up to Donovan McNabb. When retired came back to Monroe where played for ULM. Then coached H. S. at Calvary in Shreveport. When Reid fired in Philly and hired in K.C. he hired Peterson as his offensive coordinator. Few successful years there and Philly fired Chip Kelly. Ownership consulted long time good Philly head coach Andy Reid for suggestions as to next head coach. Says your former QB and my current OC Doug Peterson. Looking like great hire and Reid has been a great mentor for Peterson.

Looks like he's a good play-caller, with some nice plays in his arsenal. I'd love to see LSU run that fake jet sweep/pitch, and that quick screen from the 2 was sick.

he should serve as an example to stop recycling coaches.

if you're going to fail, don't fail with something old. plus new coaches are cheaper FWIW

Yeah he obviously had extensive contacts. Got hired as an "offensive quality control coordinator" in Philly in 2009. 2 years later he was the QB coach. 2 years after that he was the OC in KC. 3 years later he was the Eagles head coach.

All thanks to Andy Reid and what he saw in Doug. Took him under his wing last 25 years and kept promoting him because of his talent and potential. Smarts and work ethic of Doug meeting opportunity with Reid = success.

Coaching is all about who you know

If you know NFL guys, and have experience on that level, its not hard to get your foot in the door

Mike Leach being a head coach of a D1 college football program is crazier. never played football at any level and somehow got his foot in the right door all while being a certified lunatic

Yeah Mike Leach was a lawyer before becoming college coach. Like Derek Dooley but Derek's legendary dad Vince at Georgia got his foot in the door.

I get all of that, but there still aren't many head coaches with such a short resume.

After looking into other head coaches, Jason Garrett actually got his first coaching job with Miami in 2006 and was the Dallas head coach by 2010.
