ESPN is on a 30 for 30 news roll lately. They released a trailer for the Catholics vs. Convict episode on December 10th after the Heisman ceremony:

The 30 for 30 on the XFL has an air date of February 2nd, three days before the Super Bowl:

And ESPN has begun working on a 30 for 30 on the 1988 Dallas Carter football team, which featured Jesse Armstead, and was in the Friday Night Lights movie (although they beat Permian in the semifinals, not finals). May be one of their more interesting stories. Good, albeit long read for those who don't know what it's about:

I heard the incomplete pass they ruled a catch was even more egregious than the movie. That he jumped up, brought it down, and it immediately bounced on the ground, allowing him to catch it on the bounce around waist high.

They call themselves the best team ever, yet they only beat Permian 14-9 in the Semis, then won 31-14 in the finals.

The XFL was absolutely insane looking back on it through the lens of player safety. The highlight films are ridiculous

I've seen some great teams play in the past. It would be difficult for those teams to compete with these new super teams. Texas and Florida schools with 6-7K enrollment or IMG/Gorman that recruit kids nationally. It's just a different level than it was in the past.

Also, that 14-9 game was in a downpour at UT's field in Austin, not really as entertaining as the Astrodome.

I have to imagine they are saving that until late March leading up to WrestleMania. The director said in September its tentatively scheduled to release in Spring 2017, so it would make sense for around April 2

90 Ruston
98/00 West Monroe
93 Curtis
98/99/02 Evangel

Are the best teams I've personally seen in Louisiana. Destrehan's defense in 08 was outstanding too. West Monroe's defense in 2000 only gave up 14 points total in the playoffs. They beat 5 state champs/runners up that year too. Midland Lee, TX, Moss Point, MS, Clarksdale, MS, Curtis, and Shaw.

If LA didnt have the ridiculous travel rules for the playoffs, CHSbr beats them in the SEMIS IMHO. Having to travel to West Monroe as the #1 seed was bullshite

Yeah...ummm...West Monroe came to Baton Rouge that game. It was played at Olympia. West Monroe won 35-0.

You're thinking of 1996.

Played against that 98 Evangel team in Farmerville man the only other team to hold us to negative yards total offense was Ruston that same year. Evangel lead by Brock Berlin and Cole Pittman and Ruston had Jack Hunt and a young Kyle Williams

The start of the game was even crazier...

There is no coin toss to determine which team will get the ball first.

Instead of the coin toss a player from each team will line up on the 35-yard line. The referee will blow the whistle and each player will dash to the 50-yard line where a ball will be placed. The team that recovers the ball has the choice to kick or receive.

I remember the first time I saw it; it was like watching grade school kids at recess but in a giant stadium.

This was the best rule, hate to say it.

Returning teams must run kickoffs back out of the end zone.

They lost 14-7. I am talking about the Travis Dunn Major Applewhite year where they were 1 in the nation and traveled to west monroe. Maybe 96?
