I loved the 86 Mets, so I am pumped. These guys both had shitty alcoholic fathers, shocker.

Strawberry's dad pulled a shotgun on the family and the kids had to run him off with baseball bats. No wonder he had so many issues.

Judd Apatow must be a huge fan.

Just looked it up and he's from Flushing, Queens.

Doc was too fricked up to even go to the parade. Amazing these two are even still alive.

Doc threw a no-hitter, and it was the last start his dad ever saw.

Gooden actually wasn't much of a strikeout pitcher after his second season ('85).

Ok, 12.8 per 9 innings (at whatever point in the season the clip was from). I don't know where he ended up, but any stretch where you are dominating like that is awesome.

His seasons in 84 and 85 were some of my first memories of watching baseball as a kid.

I liked the 30 for 30. Soooo much wasted talent. The young black kid from Louisiana many years ago who was going to be all world..didn't someone say they were making one about him?

Would've preferred an 86 Mets 30 for 30.

Career 7.37 K/9 is not bad for 1984-2000. After two of the most amazing seasons ever, Gooden had a 8.63 K/9 in 1990 and all but one season in 80's with a K/9 of 7+. It was really 92 and beyond where his strikeouts dropped. His 1984 11.39 strikeouts nine is almost unparalleled.
