I wish he'd retire. This makes me sad.

Caught the warmups on Tennis Channel before I left for work, Robredo looked like the sacrificial lamb. Kyrgios looks like he has a decent draw this week if he continues to play well.

Ryan Harrison beat Celic. Best win of his career.

Kyrgios on his A-game is just remarkably good at tennis; I mean, really really good at tennis. As in, he's either the second or third best player in the world. I can't decide which one.

He's never going to be a guy who brings his A-game to center court every match of every tournament like Mr. Djokovic or the athletic wonder formerly known as Rafa Nadal. I can see Kyrgios being a bit more Safin-esque in his mental makeup and consequent consistency in level of play than the two aforementioned gentlemen. And that's okay. Talented headcases make things more interesting. Kyrgios unquestionably has one of those boxes checked, and I suppose time will tell whether he's a mere quasi-headcase or if he has full-blown Safin Syndrome.

Either way, kid's got mad game. He's arrived.

I think Fritzy's inspired him.

What's even more telling to me is that the odds were dead even in that match. I thought that Chardy should have been favored, and that the even money odds were a smidgeon of an overreaction to recent solid play from an up-and-comer. Nope. Fritz exceeds raised expectations. It's what he does.

And, seriously: what has impressed me the most about Taylor Fritz isn't any single aspect of his tennis skillset; it's his attitude, which is reflected both in the way he carries himself on the court and the results in critical moments of matches. He's a gamer. He thinks he belongs in there with those guys, and it's pretty clear now that he does.

I have him pegged as the next Marcelo Rios in the consistency and headcase-ery categories.

Dolgo went god mode on Ferrer and probably would have beaten anyone in the world today.

Querrey just beat up on Nishikori, which means the top 2 in acapulco are out.

And Fritz just won again. He will have a decent chance at beating Querry in the next round.

Marcelo Rios was my focking homeboy, but I think his problems were as much physical as mental. He was a little guy who never committed to making his body stronger, and you just can't get away with that in the modern game.

Love Marcelo Rios, though. Most fluid player of all time. Just au naturale.

Dolgo can do that.

He's impossible to bet on. The week to week variances in his quality of play is just not conducive to gambling.

But he still should have won a major and would have won a major if Petr Korda hadn't had 1,159 different banned chemicals coursing through his veins in that Aussie Final.

Kyrgios took out Berdy 4 and 4.

If he beats the winner of Kohl and Stan, he'll get this guy in the final named Novak.
