Happened to Minnesota during Moss's rookie season. Nowadays the crowd would just get louder. Hell. Seattle designed a stadium to trap in the crowd noise.

I do remember being at a 49ers game when Steve Young was still qb. He would constantly complain he could not hear. We would either get a warning from the ump, or an actual penalty. It was downright comical, and yet frustrating to see him saying to the ref, I cannot hear. And out would come the yellow flag.
