On SEC Network now. National CBS game. James Brown and Quin Buckner on the call. I was so young then I don't remember this game. What an entertaining game this was. Both teams running and gunning up and down the floor. Loyola Marymount averaged a ridiculous 127 points a game or something that year. A lot of talent in this game. O'Neal, Jackson, and Roberts against Kimble and Gathers (RIP). Loyola Marymount erases a double digit lead in 2nd half to send game to OT. LSU goes on to win.

Loyola Marymount player said it was the loudest game he ever played in. O'Neal swatting everything in sight, but I love how fearless Gathers and Kimble were. Loyola Marymount shot the ball every 5 seconds per possession. I doubt we ever see a team like that again.

Loyola was so fun to watch with those two playing.

Burns me up LSU was in the cellar when I was there. Well, still are, but you get the point.

The annoucers were just talking about Gathers going to the doctor and changing his medicine becuase his medicine was affecting his play.

They said he looks great after getting off the medicine.

Damn. He dies one month later. That whole situation leading up to his death was handled poorly.

Absolutely brutal. That's why I will never shite on an athlete for retiring for health reasons. It may not wind up bad, but if it does, it's too late to reconsider.

Yeah, I heard that too. I wonder if he was on the medicine when he died. I guess the medicine made him feel sluggish or something. I have to believe he underwent some battery of tests the first time he collapsed. He was fun to watch. What a shame. I think Kimble was drafted in the NBA, but didn't do much.

I would have thought LSU would have made a deeper run in the NCAA Tournament that year, and later years with O'Neal. Didn't Loyola Marymount go to the Elite 8 that year? I hope ESPN shows the documentary about them again soon.

I know it's a different situation, but Bosh has had some serious health issues. I hope he considers retirement.

Yep. Ran into UNLV, who had arguably the best team of all time that year

Possibly but didn't it come out later that he quit the meds without telling anyone because he didn't like how it made him feel sluggish? Sad but he made his choice and lived on his terms.
