re: when I pay my property taxes, is that for the previous year or the upcoming year

I'm in the Houston area, but pretty sure it's in arrears. If home is sold say, on May 1, the seller needs to compensate the buyer for the 4 months that he lived in the house for when buyer pays the tax bill at the beginning of the following year.
