JP is definitely E&P.

They buy dried up wells, mostly.

They're probably not the best fit for me since most of my experience is in completions and a little in operations/workover

Wouldn't that be a perfect fit for rehabbing wells?

Lafayette is a dead town for operators. Most people get in by knowing someone, or working in Houston first then waiting for the select few openings in Lafayette. There are probably hardly any job openings there now. Others work on degrees at ULL and intern at Stone, then get hired after a long drawn out process if they are fortunate.

Freeport-McMoran also has an office in Lafayette, in the same building as Shoreline and Petroquest.

You might have better chances going to work as/for a consultant like Stokes and Spiehler

My goal really is to get on with an operator in Dallas. Lafayette is second then Houston

Good luck bud, I was really hoping for a turnaround or at least a stabilization by mid to end 2016. However everything that I keep reading points to a longer and longer downturn. Iraq and Iran coming back online as well as China's economy taking a shite is going to hurt.
