Vanguard Account Question - Emergency Fund

First want to thank MT board for the great info on here. Been reading as much as I can over the last 3 months since my wedding for advice on all sorts of topics.
I just opened a Vanguard account and will be putting our additional savings on top of retirement into a few of their index and specialty funds. My question is in regard to my emergency fund, let's say I was to put emergency fund into something like Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund Admiral Shares (VBIRX), when I need that money in an emergency, how long in your experience has it taken to sell and transfer to your bank account?
I don't anticipate wife or I being laid off, she's worked for RIG for the last 3 years and they've had annual layoffs each Spring so it's something that we need to at least know how long our money would be tied up if a layoff or emergency did happen.

I have four brokerage accts at Vanguard, taxable, non-taxable and a trust for each of two sons. Take the time to set up your local bank checking account and link to your money market account within your brokerage account. Takes a week or two because they will do the several cent deposit & withdrawal on your checking and you have to verify. Once set up, transfer money between the two with ease, buy or sell one day, money available next business day.

frick off
Oh, sorry, wrong board
It'll take 3-5 business days to get the funds into your checking account.

If the money is already in the money market account inside the brokerage account, it is next day. Sons trust accounts are in vanguard mutual funds, sell fund day one, next day in money market, next day in his Campus Federal checking account.

Vanguard is a solid brokerage, and their expense ratios for investment products are very competitive. Compared to fidelity, their mutual funds are much cheaper to own. As for liquidity, if you have everything linked to a checking account it will probably settle within a day or two, excluding weekends and market holidays. Try to give yourself a few days notice and you'll be fine. They have good perks too LINK
Best of luck with everything, hopefully you won't even need to make a withdrawal.
