Go for it. I've worked in startups when I was your age and loved it. If I didn't have a wife and kids I would do it again and probably move to California to do it.

Go for it. Base may be lower but if you get any equity it may pay off in the end. I think startups are great because you get to do more than just one particular job in most cases and may help you find your niche going forward.

Do it! You may be thrown into something where you learn more than what you're trained to do. In that environment, learning to think outside the box and networking with people may really pay off down the road. To me it seems like a high risk/high reward opportunity but in your mid 20's, you have minimal risk IMO.

Thoughts on how to look at equity?

Are they offering you stock options or an actual ownership %? Ownership % would be much better imo because stock options are worthless if the company never sells or goes public in most cases.

That'll be the kicker. I'm assuming straight ownership % is better? My guess would be somewhere between 1/2 of 1% to 1% (but I dunno).

From reading online, it looks like with options you may actually have to put some skin in the game. Example: upon hire, firm gives you option to buy 1% of firm at a certain price. So really you're buying it (albeit usually at reduced price) and it may be worthless in 2 yrs.
