Somewhat OT: Speed Reading and Expanding Business Knowledge

I know this is somewhat off topic, but does anyone here have any experience with Speed Reading?
It has been something I have been interested in my whole life, but I haven't put in the effort to learn. Additionally, I am not even sure I believe it is real and that you can effectively retain the knowledge.
I'd like to use this skill to pore through a large number of business books to improve my knowledge base (reading list found at PersonalMBA.com).
Any thoughts or experiences?

I took a speed reading course once. Sort of worked. I could zip through books, but I did not retain as much as when I read at normal speed.

It honestly depends, is it material you need for just a quick and brief understanding or is it info you would like to retain over time

Thanks for the feedback. I will be reading business/finance books, so I would like to retain over time.
I think speed reading probably is not the best option here.
