I interviewed for one such position with Chevron. I know I probably won't get a call back, but thanks for all of the info.
Is there a particular reason that makes you think you will not hear back?

I interviewed in early October, haven't heard back yet, and I have no rig experience.
I really hope I get a callback, though, because I would be swimming in money compared to most in their first year out of school. Plus, I'm a nerd who finds the idea of drilling miles into the ocean floor atop a giant floating platform really freaking cool.
Also, 2 weeks on/2 weeks off sounds like a fun schedule to work, and it would let me live basically anywhere in the state I want and only commute to the helicopter site a couple times a month. For someone who hates driving in traffic, that's awesome.

You interviewed with chevron to be a company man right out of college? aren't you like an English major?

no, Construction Management. I'd taken a fair number of PETE classes and geology classes in the past so I have a lot of conceptual knowledge of rigs and drilling operations. Also, I have the TWIC card already from working in chemical plants.

I think you're confused bc I can guarantee you didn't interview for the position we're talking about here.

It was a drill site supervisor. You shadow one for 2 years in the gulf to learn and then after two years, you get your own rig. You run all of the scheduling, cost controls, construction operations, ect on those rigs.

Hey, that's what they told me the job was. They said I was interviewing for drill site supervisor. I doubt Chevron was lying to me. So yes, I'm quite serious.

estimating is just a small part of the overall job, but one of the responsibilities. That's why they went to the CM department at LSU because we're taught some of those skills that PETE graduates aren't. Namely contracts, scheduling, and estimating. It's a big job that requires the ability to communicate with corporate and trades while managing costs and reacting to constant changes. Rigs are a caustic environment so shite breaks and needs to be repaired or replaced all the time. Those kinds of decisions take some estimating, so it's kind of important.

Well that's probably true

that sounds like the DSM program at chevron. Would be real hard to get into and after your training you wouldnt be running your own Gulf platform.

I appreciate the lesson. Please tell me how much more you know about PETE than me

Hence why I said I didn't expect to. Reading comprehension, you suck at it. I've got a decent job lined up in industrial construction so I'm not worried at all. It's not like all of my eggs are in one basket.

I never claimed to know more than you, nor would I without learning first hand what you know. Personally, since I already posted that I didn't think I had a shot at the job anyways, I don't see what your deal is.
