I own 2 small businesses (construction and hvac), and just sold an insurance agency.

Looking into opening two franchise stores in the home remodeling sector with minimal employees (one in house “designer” is all that is needed).

Being a small biz owner, I have never been constrained or hamstrung with any compliance, which obv will be the case here.

Other than the above, what other negatives come from the franchising model?

Any absolute positives from it?
Pros/cons?

Thanks for any and all info.

I’m not an expert but my sister has owned a few and now deals in commercial real estate related almost exclusively with franchises. My perspective is they’re a huge mixed bag. Some are excellent ways to get started with great support from the franchiser and then you expand and own 3 or four locations and can make some serious money. I know a few guys who own sonics (they don’t check knuckles) and all of them say after the 2nd one you can really make bank. Others don’t do much more than want your money without support except a tiny advertising kick every once in a while. Each deal is different.
