Property Tax Appeal Question

I've started the yearly property tax appeal process and have a question for the smart people on this board... The few of them out there
So I appealed online and they came back with a settlement amount, however, they didn't change the actual appraisal amount, just the market value of the home.
Example:
Original: 300 market/275 appraisal
Proposal: 280 market/275 appraisal
So in the end, it didn't change my taxes owed a red cent. The question is, is there any benefit/negative to accepting the change? I don't want to accept if I'm being short sighted and it could screw me in the future somehow.
Thoughts?

They can raise your appraised value more than 10 percent per year, which explains why your appraised value is less than your market value.
Lowering your market value only helps if you believe that they will raise your market value by a percent each year, rather than actually valuing the property at full value.
If you think your appraised value is less than 275K and you have the data to prove it, I would not accept their settlement and push the issue.

its funny you mention this, my property appraisals all rose significantly this year in houston and we're supposed to be on the cusp of a crisis lol. The great HCAD wont ever miss an opportunity to tax us some more.
on a serious question abt property taxes, I bought my home 6 years ago. The taxable value is for 3400 sq ft and the real house is actually a tad over 4000 bc theres a third floor that for whatever reason isnt being counted. Am I supposed to report this? Will I ever owe serious back taxes if this is found to be an error after say 20 years?

They've raised my value over 75k the last 4-5 yrs...
As for where its priced, I would say its right in line with what I am seeing for sale within a mile of my place. I just didn't know if it was worth leaving the market value over inflated for some reason or not.

I'm curious to see an answer on this. Some new neighbors of ours are in the same boat... HCAD is understating their sq ft by like 50%.

sneaky how did your neighbors issue happen by that much? With mine, I know its the the third floor but im assuming its bc whoever measured it missed the entrance to the third floor bc its just a closet door with a staircase behind it but 50% is enormous. I just dont want $100k backpay penalty in 20 years or something but im curious if its my fault or theirs.

The previous owners did an addition. It's crazy to me that HCAD hasn't picked on it. Seems like the sales price from the mls would have thrown up some big red flags.

I just remember when I bought the house this team of 2 women came over and were measuring the house and we have one of those apartments over the garage along with a third floor and when I look on the HCAD site now all it shows is
BASE AREA PRI 1,708
OPEN MAS PORCH PRI 108
OPEN MAS PORCH PRI 18
BASE AREA UPR 1,708
FRAME OVERHANG UPR 55
ONE STORY MAS UPR 18
nowhere on there does it show a 350 sq ft garage apt and a 400 sq ft 3rd floor
Im not gonna willingly call them and say hey can I pay more in taxes but Im just curious what happens if/when they find out which I imagine will be when I sell it.
on the flip side I cant complain bc I have some bare land I own in the city and its appraised for peanuts compared to its value
