I think you should quadruple the amount, actually more if you can. Something bad is coming and you’re gonna need it to survive. Very smart

Normally $0. I keep about $5,000 in my checking account. My most liquid money stays with Empower that has a 4.75% CD rate these days. Everything else in invested.

What $50k emergency do you feel like will happen that you need less than 24 hours to get to? I worry about $50k emergencies that I only have 20 min to get the money all the time….or not.

Just got my invoice for the month. Motherfricker’s ears must have been burning

And I think it’s just his way. I asked his preferred form of payment (mine is always zelle), and he said he invoices monthly. But he’s got a crew, so that makes sense at that scale.

Last time I was in Japan was Oct/Nov 2017. Think it was around 112JPY to USD back then. I honestly hadn’t realized it had run like that. I feel like it’s time to plan another trip

5k is double what I ever need. I only keep that for running from a hurricane, in case I need to stay home longer or to bring supplies back to others…. Or really if I see a 5th gen Yota while I’m on the run to bring home

What is the point in keeping such a large amount of cash? Are you a drug dealer?

There is zero reason to have that much cash unless you are caught up in something highly illegal

For the people who live in hurricane, tornado or earthquake zones, I can understand having what seems to be a somewhat excessive amount of cash on hand. But in my mind, and knowing very well how large amounts of cash are viewed by law enforcement, if a person with $50K in cash goes through a checkpoint, it’s doubtful that he’s going to leave with $50K in cash - especially if there’s a firearm onboard (legal or not). I’m sorry to say that some jurisdictions view large amounts of cash as an opportunity to grab & go, and forcing the owner to go to court to get his money back. Not saying that’s right at all… just the way it is in many cases. So I think between fire, theft and whatever else, the OP has probably created a bigger problem than whatever potential solution he thinks that he’s addressing. Just my opinion. And I most certainly wouldn’t be broadcasting all of that info on even the most anonymous message board. But to each his own.

As to your situation, Bama, I’m far from a prepper or even someone who worries about low probability happenings. But I’d say your stash is pretty reasonable, and basically where I am. Only question I have (if you care to address it), being that you live in Colombia(?), how are you legally able to have those firearms? If you work for some sort of security contractor, etc., just say “I got it covered” and we’ll keep it mums the word.

From memory, these are the places we hit during that trip:

Tokyo
Nikko
Hakone
Kyoto
Nara
Himeji Castle
Koyasan
Kanazawa

Would probably hit Tokyo for a couple of nights, hit Nikko again now that they've finished the major temple renovation, do Kyoto for another handful of nights, then fit in some other parts of the country we didn't make it to last time. Would have to spend some time planning before I really made decisions on that.

Put in a money market fund like CIT Bank. It's FDIC insured, and pays 4.85% est. yearly return. CDs will get you 5.35% for 3 months.
