I am going to have to provide my own insurance for the 1st time in my life(just me--wife and kids are covered through her job). I made the mistake of filling out a form on some Obama Care website and have gotten spammed with 5-10 calls a day ever since. And the times I have answered, they've put me on hold. I need direction.

--I live in Louisiana
--I have no serious illnesses, but high blood pressure and cholesterol
--I am on 3 meds
--I am in my late 30s

Any suggestions?

Change your diet. You can purchase an individual policy from any major insurer. Obamacare is for those that have no where to turn

I'll never tell.

But one where I won't be able to afford super high premiums for the first little while or so.

Look up Samaritans Purse, MediShare, or US Health Advisors.
All good cost effective health plans.
I have Medishare and am 33 with a wife and 3 kids and pay $477/month with a $2500 deductible.

Why not use your wife's company provided group policy?

I guarantee it's better than any individual policy you can find.

I understand. Based on your interest question in the other thread, i know you have little understanding of finance. I just want to help you get going and hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls i experienced.

Call an insurance broker, they will be able to run your information through multiple providers and give you multiple options and price ranges. That's the best thing to do, it can vary City by city on what is best depending on who the hmo providers can be, how far your hospital is, etc.

I don't dispute that.

But my math and suspicions were actually correct, hence the thread. Sure enough she had "slipped" some optional nonsense in there without explaining it and I called her out on it and had her remove it tout suite.

$477 for all 4 of you with only a $2500 deductible? Nice.

Don't want to go too far down this road, but let's just say that's not an option.

Damn. That sucks.

I looked into insurance outside of work. It's ridiculously expensive for a family. Hopefully you can find a good policy just for you.

I've been under several policies and I've found that United Healthcare is the best out of Cigna, Aetna, Humana and UH.
