All I had to do was say I think it will be dropping and now we are over 300. Still up 20% in 3 days so hard to complain.

Luckily I missed most of the ride down sitting in cash, and even setting conservative stops on the way up, I am up about 5 ETH from where I was a few weeks ago.

Stop set at 298, hoping it is a long ride up and I can keep moving it up.

New to the crypto game here and needing some info please folks. Forgive my ignorance. I'm sure the answers I'm looking for are somewhere in this thread but at 280 pages strong I don't have the fortitude to spend hours finding it.

So I've gone through the process of setting up my coinbase account and buying some ETH. I've also decided to go through Polo and successfully moved the ETH over to Polo.

Question 1: How in the heck do you buy alts with Polo? I see the "buy/sell/stop limit" boxes but they are locked, for lack of a better term. It says in the boxes the ETH is available, but it won't let me input any info to actually make an order.

Question 2: If I want to transfer back to USD (say, if I'm trying to wait out a market dip) do I need to bring the coins back to coinbase and transfer to USD, or is there a way to do that in Polo?

Question 3: Is this a decent way to manage a crypto portfolio or am I a complete noob and going about this all wrong? Want to get setup right and learn the ins and outs before I put any serious money in here. For now I've only got about $1k of 'play money' invested while trying to figure this all out, so I won't be devastated if Skynet ends up with all my $$$.

TIA

1. Make sure you are trying to trade ETH/Altcoin. You may be trying to get an altcoin that can only be bought with Bitcoin (BTC). If this is the case, you must first convert to BTC and then convert to altcoin.
BTW, which alt are you interested in? Just curious.
2. You should be able to transfer to USDT. You cannot transfer USDT to your bank account, but it will essentially be the same volatility as USD.
3. The Blockfolio app is a decent app to manage your crpto portfolio. That's what I and others on here use.
Let me know if you need any clarifications on my answers.

Q1: sounds like a browser issue. youre signed in, correct? maybe switch browsers or restart your device. idk

Q2: polo trades in USDT, so you can keep your currency there while waiting for a dip (its essentially the same value as USD)

Q3: i think some people would recommend gdax over polo but if youre just into trading than what youre doing is correct

there is a probably a noob trading tutorial on youtube which could show you exactly waht to do if youre still concerned

Thanks fellas.

Looks like it was a browser/computer issue. I logged into Polo on my mobile and was able to put info in to make an order (didn't actually make one yet). Will have to look into getting the right access on the desktop.

I see on Polo now where you can exchange for USDT, thanks. That's much easier.

Well I'm definitely still learning but the few alts I'm currently researching are DGB/NXT/GNT/STR.

DGB/STR kind of as 'lotto' picks, trying to pin the next coin to blow up. STR seems a little sketchy.

NXT looked pretty resistant to the market dip the past couple weeks, seems like a strong coin in general.

GNT mostly because of the love it's gotten in here.

Throw some in Lisk while you're at it. I think it has potential.

I did. but I was also the a-hole who dove into headfirst into crypto buying ether at $400. Luckily, through fooling with alts, and finally catching a dip my average cost is down to $249

Be careful right now guys, the 5 minute chart is heading south, which means cash for me until I see it head north again.

edit to add that every time I post something like this it does the opposite of what I think. That's why I am taking the approach of trying to have a gain every day and in the long run come out way ahead while having very little downside exposure.

how to invest in ripple and whats the current price? is it too late to enter the game?

I buy XRP the asset of Ripple on Polo. I think now is the last chance to get in on major profit with little up front. It's been .25 cent per coin a few days now. I see $1.00 by the end of the year.

Several banks are starting some trials in Q3. On top of that 55 billion of the 100 billion coins will be put into escrow by the end of this year, with a smart contract that only allows the release of 1 billion per month at most. It's already rising, now imagine cutting the supply in half.

The company has a ton going for it, the coin was trending for a breakout before the big blood bath but it was resilient through the crash. I wish I would have gotten in before the 4000% increase this year. If it goes to $10 I'll make 10K on $200. If it manages to rise to $100-$200 in the next 5 years then you'll turn $200 into 100K-200K.

I think $10 is a sure thing long term. I'll pray for $200 per XRP though.

5 minute chart

- The Ripple escrow is significant. Historically there were lots of concerns regarding Ripple flooding the market.

If I had to guess on one, I would guess ripple to be the next added to coinbase (not that they can handle the volume). This would be significant for ripple holders.

If ripple reaches 1 dollar by year end its market cap will be equal to bitcoin. You really think that's possible? 10 long term would give it 400 billion market cap. Bitcoin is 40 billion right now.

I took out my original investment at $295. Still sitting on 15+ ETH. I set a buy order at $150 in case this shot tanks again. I feel much better now that I have my original investment sitting the side. Playing with house money!
