My number one rule of thumb is to go look and start negotiating. Always be willing to walk away. I generally walk away at least once. If possible get the terms in writing and take it to another dealer and do the same process. Go back and forth until you feel like you're close then lowball the dealer of the truck you want and tell them that's it or I'm going to dealer b.

Then watch the finance guy real close. They are smooth talking former salesman.

Question. This is a big if, but what if during your first visit...they give you everything you wanted? You go in there wanting to pay 30,213 for the truck, and they offer 30k even...do you still walk?

That never happens though

ETA: Do I have a downvote stalker on the MB now? People really do that on this board?

First, I would have to pick myself up off the floor, then I would quickly reevaluate my original offer to see if I misplaced a decimal number.

If that checks out, we sigh and sell. Oh, and I don't pay document fees.

I paid off my truck awhile back, my note wasn't large $300 so near the end I was paying $750 to get it paid off. Currently I'm putting the $750 in my savings every month. I'm jealous of the new trucks I see on the road - I looked at a used truck earlier this week but couldn't pull the trigger in the deal because of a monthly note.
