I know it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but this just seems like utter bullshite. Ditech bought my mortgage and the only way to pay without a fee is through snail mail or Autopay. It's certainly something I can deal with but I like to be able to make payments to principal that fluctuate every month.

Today, I got extra annoyed because Ditech paid my Flood Insurance and added it escrow after I had already paid the bill in full with my agent. I got the check back from the insurance company and wanted to just add it back to escrow but can't even do that online even if I wanted to pay the $10 fee to Western Union. It's a $15 fee to do an automated phone payment and $19 if I want to talk to an agent to do it.

I don't get the old school mortgage stubs to pay by mail so I'd essentially have to write a letter for how I want my payments divvied up if I wanted to use snail mail.

Am I the only one who thinks this is bullshite? Would you be pissed off if this happened to you?

Mine did, and it is annoying, but not really anything that can be done. They aren't the best at customer service-they royally screwed up my escrow account, so i monitor it constantly now.

Yeah, I know I can't do much about it. I'm mostly just venting but I mean, really... What company nowadays actually wants you to send a check?

Not Ditech, but about three months ago, mine got sold/transferred to a company called LoanCare and it has been an utter disaster.

Their website wasn't ready yet for me to make the first payment, so I mailed in a check, which was promptly first lost, then they found it and applied it to an account of someone with a similar name in another state. Then they hit me with a late fee, which took forever for them to reverse. They have an e-mail for customer service, which I have used four times without getting anything but an automated response saying I should hear back in TEN days!!! Their phone service is deplorable.

They also charge a fee for online payments.

I already went and talked to the mortgage broker who did the loan and he basically shrugged his shoulders and said he knows it sucks but there is nothing he can do.

Ditech is pretty well known for screwing up escrow etc. Make sure they have your insurance info correct so they don't try to screw you with force placed insurance. I don't like autopay unless you can set it up on a CC so you can cancel it. If these guys draw by mistake it is an issue to get it back. If it has to be direct, then open a separate account and set up direct deposit into that account to cover the mortgage. If you do a search just about all the mortgage servicers have bad reviews and do shady things.

Back in the day, I made payments to principal using the old school mortgage stubs and checks. It's been a long time but I seem to remember a line on the stub for an extra payment very similar to on-line payment. Only you had to go through the trouble of writing a stupid paper check and mailing it. And the bank had to stupidly and expensively process the payment and check. But of course this was all before the internet when we didn't know any better. Ditech has no such excuse.

Knowing my luck, new mortgage would get sold to them as well.

refinance for the cheaper mortgage. not the servicer.

but if you refinance with a Bank like Wells Fargo odds are very good that you will stay with WF as a servicer.

Find a local credit union. Most of them are keeping things in house and they have competitive rates.

I called today to see how they wanted me to make a payment to escrow and was told they could do it over the phone but I'd have to pay the $19 charge to talk to an agent. When I balked at the charge and told them there was no other way to do it I believe the agent was laughing at me.

Holy frickng shite I'm pissed off right now. I'm sure my blood pressure is so high I'm bordering on a stroke. I know it's just $19 but that's sooooo not the point. I didn't ask for these fricksticks but I damn sure have to deal with them...

It's industry wide i think. Wells Fargo once paid an insurance premium on a house I sold using the escrow from my current loan. When I called them on it customer service actually said, "Uh, oh. This isn't good."

Just a joke that I thought was consistent with the subject of the thread.

Mine was sold to them as well. I hate them. Once I sell my house next year I will get my loan with Regions Bank. The keep all of their loans from what I was told.
