Such a small expense for your situation but go ahead and get your kids lifetime fishing and hunting license if you haven't already.

An admirable goal....but don't forget to live today. If I had a dollar for every person I know who saved for retirement & planned to travel then, but ended up too sick, too burdened by caring for others, or too fearful/set in their ways to actually seize the opportunities afforded by retirement's free time, I could retire myself tomorrow. Live today as you mean to go on. Don't kick the can of potential happiness down the road too far. The road ends.

Very sound advice here. I'm 38 and as I grow older I'm living my life more and more what's stated here. Very early on, I was very tight with money and constantly worried about if I was saving enough for retirements, emergency funds, etc. My wife and I were always at odds with each other because I never wanted to spend money LOL! In her own little way she pointed out to me that what's the point of having money if you aren't going to use it to give yourself and/or the family experiences. I've always wanted to do things like travel, but never wanted to spend the money. What really helped me become comfortable was creating a budget.

But I'm going echo again what hungryone said.....

I subscribe to the rule of thirds. A third goes to retiring debt which should be your highest interest debt. A third toward savings or investing. A third to enjoy on a vehicle, vacation, etc. I'd prefer spending the last third on things that make memories, like vacations with the family. I used to worry so much about how much I was spending on a vacation, I didn't enjoy the vacation. Money is tool, not a goal, in and of itself.
