Is this a trial lawyer impact or or is it economic pressure facing the insurance companies?

Tort reform was going to end rate increases. The only thing worse than trial lawyers are the insurance companies and politicians beholden to them on a scale of sleaze.

Go look up what "margins" are and get back to us.

When oil prices are low, industry layoffs are prevalent.
When oil prices are high, fat bonuses checks abound.

Even the government profits off of margins.
Your local property tax assessor keeps 2% of the revenue (you could say that they steal that 2% from schools and children).
Property taxes increase, you never read about how your tax assessors are taking in record profits.

When property taxes go up 17% (business insurance increases YOY), 21% (avg homeowner premium increase YOY) or 17% (avg auto ins increase YOY) you get back to me.

You cannot use a 2% tax accessor rate compared to 20% insurance increases and be taken seriously in this argument about exorbitant insurance premiums.

You still haven't looked up margin.
Try the Google machine. It's so easy,a caveman can do it.

Costs go up 17%. Costs go up 20%. Maybe reread the oil example. Hell... I've seen property taxes go up 17%. There are huge market fluctuations over the past 35 years.
Do you need to lookup sales tax? And compare how much is paid with the inflation from car sales?

This is basic, elementary stuff. And you are doubling down.

Carriers are not making record profits i assure you. Especially not in louisiana. Carriers file rates with the department of insurance. If you care to learn go look.

Insurance rates are super simple. Expected losses divided by exposure units (vehicles/houses/boats) gives you “loss cost”. Well in Louisiana losses are increasing and exposure is decreasing with people leaving the state. It’s impacting rates tremendously.

It is sickening adding up all the insurance costs I pay. Roughly $15k in insurance costs. And we have it “good”.

For medical, I do a HDHP for myself through work. My wife has herself and the kids on her plan.

We don’t have any kids of driving age yet so our premiums aren’t arse-rapingly high. Still too high, but I am dreading when we have to add teen driver(s) to the plan.

Homeowners just went up 52% in the most recent renewal.

Overall:

Medical for family: $5346
Dental for family: $813
Vision for family: $76
Homeowners: $4000
Life for me and wife: $2400
Auto for me and my wife: $2300
