Bureaucracy..getting things done.

I've been in credit/portfolio management for 8.5 years (most of which have been in one of the largest cities in this country). We just don't move fast like smaller institutions despite the fact that we sell our customers on being a "local bank" within a larger bank.

But I'm willing to bet you would make more at a larger institution, but opportunities for advancement may differ, depending on the bank.

Interesting, Have you worked at both big & small?

And for strictly learning credit, would you recommend one or the other or is it situational?

Unfortunately I have only worked for one of the big institutions, so I can't guide you on what is better (big vs small) for you.

ETA: though credit training from a large institution may carry more weight with recruiters, employers...
